I was able to switch from my 400mb plan that I was paying $76 a month on to the new 1gb for life for $75. I just called their VIP # 1-877-794-2724 and asked to see if I could get the 1gb for life plan on mine as a current customer. No questions asked, switched me over and she said it would be around $77 a month with taxes since I don't have a modem fee. Within 10 minutes my Modem rebooted and I now have 1gb internet.

This is in Texas. Not sure what areas suddenlink is doing it in. It's advertised on their main webpage for new customers only though.

"For life" rate means that the company will be out of business in a year, two tops.

With Suddenlink, "Price for life" is a scam. They split up the bill into two items: One for basic internet and one for an speed upgrade. The "Price for Life" is just for the basic internet. They can change the price for the speed upgrade at any time.

My brother signed up for the "Price for Life" 400Mbps bundle in Jan. One month later, they increased the price by $10.

Everyone thinks their own cable company is the worst, but if there was a competition for worst cable company in the world, I really believe Suddenlink would be a top contender...just horrific. The most recent example (of MANY) - my box crapped out, went to local store to exchange, told store no longer exchanges boxes/remotes/etc (they only sell mobile service now), tech would deliver one free of charge...just got $80 service call charge to have working box delivered!

I can confirm that "price for life" is a scam. I also signed up for 400mb for $40 for life with a free $50 Visa gift card. Didn't receive the gc and on top of that my monthly fee went up to $50/mth within 3 months after sign up.

Doubt it's a scam. Companies can't get away with that.

They are getting away with it because have this disclaimer:

PRICE FOR LIFE (PFL): Applies to base price for internet or internet/video service and equipment charges. All other fees, surcharges and taxes subject to change.

It's a very deceptive advertising pratice. Think about it. How would new customers know that they break up the internet charge into 2 pieces and PFL is only applicable to one of them?

Hmm, I have suddenlink (internet only) and hate their prices. They have jacked my bill up immensely in the last few years and with no real competition there's nothing I can do. Literally it seemed like every month it would go up $10 recently. I was up to 115 for the 400mbps package. I called and complained and they knocked off a whopping $10 (probably only temporarily) so it's currently at 105.

The thing is the way they do their bill is really scummy. For example here is how my 105 breaks down

Internet 400: $30
Internet 89.99
Unlimited internet allowance (wtf) $5. the 400 mbps package is advertised as unlimited to begin with so why a special fee? Oh right so they can jack it up if need be.
Internet promotion -$10 (this was what the lady put on when I called and complained)
Special discount -$21 (this is standard I guess, and whatever they feel like)

And then taxes and fees add up to another 10.62

You can see how they can jack with your bill any number of ways. They could remove your "special discount". They could increase your "unlimited internet allowance" fee. And then they have two main fees, "internet" and "internet 400" they could presumably jack up separately. So when they send me flyers advertising 79 for internet 400 plus phone plus whatever, I know it's all BS because it says "additional fees apply" or whatever and I know the real price will probably be like 120. Even this 75/month, is that for "internet" or the other "internet400 (or 1GB presumably) fee? So it'll be 75+30 or something? They are so scummy when you realize how they structure their bills to deceive and manipulate and false advertise.

I guess I will call the number and see even though I'm a current customer. Cant hurt.

Edit: wow so I went to the /speed link, put in my address, and they end up offering me 1gbps "for life" for $55. Screw it, I'm going to try it. Looks fantastic. Even plus 30 that will be way cheaper than my current bill. I'm guessing the threat of people switching off their internet and just using their phone hotspot data finally made them produce some deals. Oh and you get a $50 Amazon gift card. I was able to sign up for this as a current customer. My current modem isn't even capable of 1gbps but I dont care.
