*** NEW LINE ACTIVATION IS NOT REQUIRED ***
I was chatting with a T-Mobile rep, and they told me about this promo that starts 6/12
"For a limited time in all markets, customers with 2 or more years tenure with T-Mobile can get up to $350 off (via monthly Recurring Device Credits (RDC)) when you purchase an iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, 11, 11 Pro, or 11 Pro Max on EIP and trade in an iPhone 6, 6+, 6S, or 6S+ device. There will be no marketing support for this offer."
The name of the promo is 2020 Apple Trade Promo 10 (w/ promo code T298)
and runs from 6/12 through 6/21. You must talk with a T-Mobile rep (either via phone, chat, or possibly in-person as well) in order to take advantage of this offer. Mention the name of the promo to the rep.
Offer details can be viewed here [t-mobile.com]
- I talked with a rep on the phone today (6/12), and they processed my order. I had to electronically sign a document to finalize my order, and then I received confirmation of my purchase (e.g. iPhone 11 on an equipment installment plan).
- The rep assured me that all the necessary steps had been taken to take advantage of this promo, but I won't receive confirmation of the promo itself until 48 hours after my purchase.
- Note also that you will owe sales tax on the phone upfront (e.g. for my state, it is about $55 on a 128GB iPhone 11). The rest will be billed monthly (e.g. $31.25/month for 24 months for a 128GB iPhone 11). That price will be reduced by about $14.58/month ($350 / 24 months) once the monthly bill credits kick in (in 2-3 billing cycles).
- The rep I talked to today said this might be a promising sign of more future deals for existing customers that don't require adding a new line. I only came across this deal by chance, so it hopefully it will be better advertised in the future.
- I was initially told that the promo would not be advertised online. However the promo is now visible on this page [t-mobile.com] (2020 Apple Trade Promo 10).
NOTE: This is just what this rep told me. If you're unsure of anything, definitely double-check with another T-Mobile rep.
Q: Do I need to add a new line to get this promo?
Q: How do I get this promo?
You must process the order with a rep via phone (this is what I did) or chat. It is possible that you may be able to go to a store as well and do it in person, but I can't confirm that. Either way, to my knowledge there is no way to take advantage of this promo through their website.
Q: Does everyone qualify for this promo?
If you haven't been a T-Mobile customer for at least 2 years, then you do not qualify. Even then, a couple people have reported that they have been a customer for over 2 years and still didn't qualify. Speculation suggests that it may be because they already took advantage of another promo recently or their plan is not qualified (not sure which plans exactly are disqualified). Double-check with a rep to make sure you qualify.
Q: How do I trade in my old iPhone?
You will need to send in your old iPhone via mail. The new iPhone will come with shipping labels to send in your old iPhone.
Q: How soon do I need to trade in my old iPhone?
You will need to trade in the old iPhone within 7 days of receiving the new iPhone. I was told that you can still send it in after 7 days, but the process becomes much more difficult (not sure how exactly).
Q: The promo says "up to $350 off". In what scenario would I get less than $350?
If you trade in an iPhone 6/6+/6s/6s+ and it passes their inspection (no cracks/water damage, powers on, overall in decent condition), you will get the full $350 credit, regardless of capacity (16GB, 32GB, 128GB, 256GB) or color. If it doesn't pass their inspection, you will get $0 (in which case, you should be able to either have them recycle it or send it back to you, probably for a fee). In other words, you will either get $350 or $0.
Q: What if the iPhone I'm trading in is locked to another carrier?
If the iPhone is locked to another carrier like Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, etc. then it is NOT eligible for trade in until you call the carrier and get it unlocked. It is only eligible if it is either unlocked or locked to T-Mobile. (I'm not sure what the eligibility would be if it's locked to a T-Mobile MVNO like Metro)
Q: How do I know if my phone is in good enough condition to trade in?
You can bring your phone into a T-Mobile store and an employee will be able to determine if it's eligible for trade-in.
Q: How do I know if I'm getting the promo?
You won't immediately receive confirmation of the promo. However a followup confirmation email should be sent to you within 48-72 hours after placing the order with a rep. If it doesn't, it would best to contact a rep to double-check the status.
Q: When will the credits begin to show up on my bill?
The credits should begin to appear no later than 3 billing cycles after you trade in your old iPhone. I was told that it will most likely appear after 2 billing cycles. If, for example, your credits start to kick in on billing cycle #3, you will also receive credit for billing cycle #1 and #2 on the same statement.
Q: What happens if I'm already receiving monthly bill credits?
Any existing bill credits should not be affected. For this promo, you get new monthly bill credits and still receive the old monthly bill credits as well.
I do not have a definitive answer for this. In my case, I'm eligible for an early upgrade but still have 2 months of bill credits coming from an old promo. The rep I talked to said I will still receive those 2 credits. Double-check with a T-Mobile rep to make sure this is the case for you as well.
Q: What does "there will be no marketing support for this offer" mean?
I believe this means that the promo will not be advertised on the T-Mobile website or in stores.
Not really sure what exactly this means, to be honest, since the promo now shows up on their website. I happened to find out about it by chance when I was chatting online with a rep and they let me know about it. Previously, another rep actually said it means that some trade-in promos will give you the "market value" of the phone upfront upon trading it in, but this is not one of those promos. In other words, you will receive your credit via monthly bill credits instead of upfront.
