Gym chain 24 Hour Fitness Worldwide Inc. laid off an undisclosed number of employees in multiple states via a series of phone calls Wednesday, as the company struggles to address the financial impact of closures during the coronavirus pandemic.

They've basically shut down all locations in some states. Now I'm debating if I should keep my $99/yr membership in case they make a come back in the future or just move on...

Update

It's only $99/yr. Why would you willingly give it up until you absolutely had to?

Although the WSJ link is behind a paywall, it looks like this closure mainly impacted Utah locations.

Because there's no more 24h fitness anywhere around me. I don't travel much, so that's not a plus. That combined with recent bankruptcy news just doesn't feel like there is a good chance for them to come back. My money is more on them slowly going out of business in the end, kind of like how Sears has done.

It also doesn't look good that other gyms have reopened their locations more swiftly while 24h is still lagging behind.

Thanks. Don't see specific locations listed.
Right, but you can check if there's one around you with opening date here. [24hourfitness.com]

That page isn't reliable because they haven't updated it. They still show clubs that were permanently closed.

Last time I checked All CA gyms have the opening date on June 22nd. Click on your state to see what cities are open at what date.

Yea, I know how it works. What I'm saying is, they are still listing gyms that are permanently closed when you browse that page.

I might did something but when I opened that page I got nothing about gyms permanently closed, need to click the link in Red "click here" to see them:

Dude. You aren't getting what I'm saying. I think you are trying to be helpful, which I appreciate, but please listen carefully and understand what I'm telling you. I am saying that when you use that website to check gyms in different states, they still list gyms that are permanently closed; in other words, we can't rely on their system through that page to know which gyms are still viable. Get it?

Got it.

But in CA, at least around my home, they are up-to-date. I tried to find Lakeshore Towers Ultra Sport (the only one in CA) in that Re-Opening page to no available. Then I clicked on that Red Link to find out that Ultra-Sport is permanently closed.

Glad to hear that it's working for you. Not too surprised there. 24h fitness is based in CA.
