I have one on "my" side of the bed.
Plug 1: Roomba is plugged into it. When I go to bed, Alexa turns it off so the light and clicking that it makes doesn't annoy me all night.
Plug 2: Lamp that my lazy self can turn on/off without rolling over.
Plug 3: Cell phone charger. Turns on when I go to bed and off when I get up so it doesn't sit there "live" all day.

Are these "necessary"? Not one bit, but for plugs that are now ~$10/outlet, we're putting them on nearly everything in our house for convenience.
Growing weed
I use it for my terrarium. One for the humidifier, one for the heating pad, and one for the sun bulb.

Just curious - what use scenario would I need 3 smart outlets together?

I have a couple spots with multiple plugs near each other. TV, surround sound, gaming system on separate ones. With my PC I have my VR on a separate plug.

Not lots of examples but there could be a few.

Maybe you have a lot of lighting that all plugs into the same area? I can see restaurants using it.

Or something you want to be able to remotely turn off all together. I have 5 3D printers and it is nice to have a webcam on them and be able to turn one off if the print starts failing.

Just two examples off the top of my head.

If you can't think of a use then you probably don't have a use but one example at my house... I have plants under grow lights that need different about of light, so I turn on and off at different times.

Interesting idea. I hadn't thought of this as part of my day/night routines. I'd be curious whether the power use from having the smart plug plugged in and running 24/7 is greater than the power saved by not having the phantom power drain from the charger while it's not in use during the day. Maybe it's not an issue if it's just one plug on a strip that's otherwise plugged in anyway but I'm curious about the trade-off for power savings sake.

Battery charger for all these cordless tools on slickdeals. It would be good to schedule a few hours a week to charge since those battery don't like to be on tender 24/7

This won't work with anything that has an on and off switch. If you turn the plug on, you still have to turn in the TV. Same for a computer. You still have to walk over and turn it on manually.

But yeah. I too am curious if the power savings out weight the cost of this smart strip. I guess it will eventually if you have it for years. When is the break even point?

Anyone know the specs on the USB ports? Got juice enough for fast charging? Or run a notebook?

I use it in the master bedroom for the 2 side lamps we have. Along with USB plugs to charge our phones. Third one not currently in use for "smart" features but nice to have one free in the event I do need it.
