I think you missed the point of e-ink devices, which is not to cause the strain on eyes which is unfortunately the case with smartphones and tablets and a lot of people struggle because of that. E-ink devices are a blessing for the readers.
Nope, regular kindle. Paperwhite has higher PPI, 1 extra LED light, flat screen, waterproof and double the storage,
Yes, this is the latest (10th generation). Also, if you have an older kindle you can trade in for a 20% further discount (if you purchase paperwhite or higher) and an additional $15 Amazon gc.

This is the latest version, right? I wonder if Amazon is coming out with a new version this year.
Still, seems like a good deal. Comes with a 1 year warranty. Debating this . . .

So is this a Paperwhite?

I see that it also comes with a 1 year warranty and 3 months free of Kindle Unlimited.

No. That's the Oasis, which is their highest-level model.

Which, as an avid reader, I think is worth every penny.

For $60, you can get a Kindle Voyage with 3g and no special offers on ebay. It's an amazon refurb.

Waiting for it to go on sale. Did you pay retail for the oasis?

If you are looking for a warm light device with a low budget, definitely go for kobo ereader.
That is also currently on sale for $99 down from $150. It also supports epub format and Cloud Library.

Kindle sucks! I sold mine. You are better off using the Kindle app on your phone or iPad. I hated the clunky interface. You can also easily make your iPhone or iPad read the book out loud for you or if you own both the Audible and book, it reads it with the book along. The Kindle can't do this, it is either or, you're listening to Audible or reading only. Ridiculous. However, I still own my old Nook Simple Touch because of the SD card reader.

Pretty good deal - I just got one for a family member (I'm still hanging on to my preciousss hacked Nook Simple Touch) with $15 & 20% off trade-in for an old gen 4 Kindle. One thing that was weird is that the 20% didn't show in the cart when I tried to buy this basic Kindle in black, but did when I tried the Paperwhite (but from reviews, I don't think the waterproofing, extra memory, light & higher PPI count worth the premium) and, for some strange reason, the white version of this basic model, so that's the one I pulled the trigger on.

We do most of our reading using various tablets, but the Kindle (and Nook) can't be beat for reading in bright sunlight.

Ya, the 20% discount is only on paperwhite or higher.
