How are these vs the black edition wd
Keep the SN750 unless you know you are going to upgrade to gen 4. Otherwise SN750 is/was a better deal then the gen3 rocket

Plus most say that in actual use pcie 4 is not nearly that much faster. If it was, i'd be tempted, but also many say only trust samsung or intel for reliability and then ye another issue is I think all pcie 4 ones come with heatsinks and my mobo already has heatsinks and so I'd be unsure what to even do, especially since this is myt first time building.
not all gen4 have heatsinks, the one listed doesnt come with one. you can just leave moboheat sink off if you do get one with a heatsink or just remove it and use the one that came with mobo. heatsink will only help sustain speeds but isnt required.

Actually that sticker is a very thin copper heatsink

Just a heads up: These come set to 512 byte emulation, not advanced 4kn sector.

For 99.9% of all use cases, you probably won't notice a difference, but if you're doing a fresh installation as an OS drive on Windows 10, I'd recommend taking the extra time to set these to 4kn. Sabrent provides a tool to do this.
I had to toggle this option several times to get my machine to accept a full backup image. It simply wouldn't recognize the drive structure over and over.

Spec wise, the Gen4 one technically should. However, the form factor might not physically fit as an internal drive and you might end up needing to find an enclosure to use it externally.

Nothing's really been recommend officially though and it's probably best to wait.

I believe you mean 1tb has more capacity than 500 gb
it is possible that a larger SSD having more NAND chips allow the controller to access the data in parallel, resulting in a faster performance than a smaller SSD with fewer NAND chips.

not only that, a smaller capacity SSD will fill up relatively more quickly in relation to its overall capacity compared to a larger one, which slows down the drive as it gets filled up (more delays in searching for empty blocks).

I really want the PCIe Gen 4 x 4 one, but I keep telling myself to wait.

Lowest price C3 has seen it was only 51 cents lower than this, so it's pretty good as far as deals go!
The XPG 1TB Gen4 has been as low as $119.99. I got one at that price, very happy with it since January: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WH4D...6EbFXCCYBQ

I was trying to look through slickdeals history and only saw the gen 3. Are you sure it was gen 4? If I missed it, can you post the previous listing?
