I was trying to look through slickdeals history and only saw the gen 3. Are you sure it was gen 4? If I missed it, can you post the previous listing?
The one I linked is from my order history. Here is the Slickdeals thread: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/13645939

The XPG 1TB Gen4 has been as low as $119.99. I got one at that price, very happy with it since January: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WH4D...6EbFXCCYBQ
I went to camelcamelcamel and the lowest price for Gen4 was $179

Where did you get $119

C3 does not factor in promotion codes, such as the price/deal in this thread. See the Slickdeals link I posted directly above your post.

not all gen4 have heatsinks, the one listed doesnt come with one. you can just leave moboheat sink off if you do get one with a heatsink or just remove it and use the one that came with mobo. heatsink will only help sustain speeds but isnt required.
If you use the nvme 4.0, a minimal heatsink is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! If you submit a warranty claim and they find out you didn't use one, good luck..
That said, I love my 2tb rocket nvme 4.0 The thing flies, but all of the bottleneck is cpu based decompress it compression or render tasks..

WD is a much more reliable brand IMO. 99% of SD'ers won't be able to take advantage of the speed diff bw WD Black and Sabrent Gen4.

tl;dr: Unless if you're transferring/rendering raw 6k/8k footage, WD Black is better

damn didn't see that. still it shouldn't interfere with mobo heat sink
that is what i wondered is could you technically use both in tat situation. lol.

One person on here claimed you should never use mobo ones because ssds are designed based on their own heatsinks or something.... that seems to be a minority claim because why would mobos even have heatsinks for them at all if you should "never" use them?

I will probably just sue 3 3.0x4 ones, but sucks to have a mobo capable of running 3 4.0x4 ones all at once and then not take advantage of it... Also I have a 512gb 970 pro and then realized the 1tb has faster speeds so I may sell it and get a 1tb... because kind of defeats the purpose of a pro if you are getting one with lower speeds.

if I got a 4.0 I am not sure in what situations I'd even use it because if I was doing something important or where speed helps, I'd be wanting the reliability of the 970 pro, but the speed of pcie 4... I am not sure if I'd even find a good way of using both types on the same build. I want one more ssd, though, and I currently bought a pro and an evo plus.

I've got The 1TB x4 and my Azrock X570 Steel legend has an integrated heat sink for two M2 slots works great.
Crystal disk sequential read is at 49XX MB/s

These are the advertised speeds:

Wd 1tb Black 3430MB/s read:3000MB/s write.
Sabrent gen 3 is 3450MB/s read:3000MB/s write.

The Gen 4 Sabrent is 5000MB/s read:and 4400MB/s write, but you need PCIe gen 4 to take advantage of that speed.
I bought the Gen 4 last year and I've had great results

I believe you mean 1tb has more capacity than 500 gb
I believe you should look up a spec sheet before responding with something so ridiculous https://www.sabrent.com/rocket-nvme-4-0/

I had to toggle this option several times to get my machine to accept a full backup image. It simply wouldn't recognize the drive structure over and over.
There's only a handful of backup applications that work well with SSD cloning of 4kn drives.

I vaguely recall using EaseUS to get my 512e drive cloned to my 4kn Sabrent, but it could have been Macrium Reflect (as much as I dislike it for its antiquated licensing model).

Which of the two cards would bes considered the better choice?

SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen 3.0

https://www.newegg.com/samsung-97...6820147743

Or this one?

Western Digital WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4

https://www.newegg.com/western-di...6820250110

The WD is the same drive size as the 970 Evo Plus and so much lower in pricing. Although I'm more interested in the better of the two for a gen 3 card... I have always used samsung ssd drives and been pleased.

Just not sure if the higher price is justifiable. Any actual difference or just the name...?

yeah I knew about that, but don't want to wait, most likely. too bad it's not out now here I could sue the amex dell deal on it.

In all honesty, though, I have overthought way too much. Most of the time I just read and post on websites all day.... my current pc with 4GB RAM is beyond speedy now for that... I'd do some video editing, programming, and MAYBE gaming, but out of those only editing would benefit much from pcie 4 and even then it won't be THAT much better. (I say editing but of course mean the encoding).

So most likely I will just use 3 pcie 3 ones. At least the extra lanes made the x570 worth buying, even if not using pcie 4.
