Hello
First time poster. Home Depot is offering an 11% rebate on purchases made from 4/13/20-6/20/20-> extended to 7/11/20 7/25/2020 which is likely an attempt to match an 11% off sale at Menards.

You must submit proof of purchase at the following website:
https://www.homedepotrebates11percent.com/

I am using this to purchase a Kreg Jig K5. I will report back my success/failure and overall findings. The site url does seem shady to me but from Google searches this rebate seems legitimate.

I think you're unfairly putting the blame on Home Depot, they are just matching the Menards 11% rebate which is in-store only. Home Depot didn't have to do a rebate at all.
Menards rebate is not in-store only, unless they have changed it since the last time I did one. I placed an online Menards order in the past and was able to generate a rebate receipt from home on my computer that was ultimately fulfilled, but that was some time ago.

Regardless, IMO it's irresponsible and even dangerous for companies to encourage or even require customers to show up in-person these days at their stores to take advantage of a sale or promotion.

Sure, an individual can pass on a deal or sale rather than risk infection. But that is not the point. Companies need to take more responsibility for their actions during these times. Instead, the truth is that they care only about generating income no matter what the cost.

And before you applaud HD for providing a rebate offer, they are not doing it out of kindness. They are doing it solely to compete with Menards, who is likely stomping them in markets where Menards has a presence and is offering this rebate. Or have you not noticed that HD only offers this rebate where Menards stores exist, but makes it unavailable to customers in non-competing locations.

You're correct, it's available online but it used to be in-store only, I didn't realize they updated it.
I agree that Home Depot should do more to avoid in-person shopping. Overall, the Home Depots around me have been pretty bad regarding social distancing and mask use. Menards had a mandatory mask requirement for 2+ months already and Home Depot only did it last week.

I disagree though that Home Depot needs this rebate to avoid getting stomped by Menards. If they really needed this rebate to be competitive, they would advertise it. Instead, it has a completely separate website and no mention of it in-store or on any of their print or online ads. Barely anyone even knows about this rebate at HD except people who browse deal sites or heard about it by word of mouth. I've talked to a few store associates in a couple different HD stores (where the rebate is valid) and none of them were even aware it existed, and if you look back in this thread, other people have had the same experience at other stores where they don't even know about it. And in my experience at a Home Depot and Menards that are <1 mi apart on the same street, the Home Depot has been just as busy as the Menards if not busier over the last few months.

I seriously doubt HD would offer this 11% rebate week after week, if at all, if Menards did not offer an 11% rebate week after week.

If not to be competitive with Menards as you claim, then I am not sure how you explain the fact that HD only offers this rebate where Menards stores exist, but makes it unavailable to customers in non-competing locations.

Nor does it explain why HD only offers the 11% rebate during weeks that Menards offers an 11% rebate.

HD tracks and mirrors Menards. If Menards does not offer the 11% rebate during a given week, neither will HD. That is why HD waits until Monday to extend the date of the rebate offer. They wait to see if Menards is offering the rebate again first.

It's blatantly obvious that the sole reason HD offers this rebate is to be competitive with Menards.

Yeah, I already said in an earlier post that they are doing this to specifically match the Menards rebate. My point is that they dont NEED this to be competitive from a profit/sales standpoint. I don't think Menards is stomping Home Depot regarding sales. If Home Depot was desperate to beat Menards, they would actually mention this rebate in their local ads and put signs up in the stores like Menards does. If anything, Menards is more desperate to draw customers away from Home Depot and Lowes since they are the smaller operation. It's more likely that Home Depot just wants to retain their existing customers and keep them from shopping at Menards, whereas Menards is trying to take additional customers from Lowes and Home Depot.

I guess we will agree to disagree. It's obvious this is a purely competitive move by HD to compete with Menards in those markets. If HD felt like they did not "NEED this to be competitive from a profit/sales standpoint," then they would not even bother with the extra money, time, hassles, and processing of these rebates. Businesses do not make decisions in that manner. They would not do any of this if they believed it had no effect on their bottom line. On the contrary, it's part of their strategy to compete with Menards in their market.

And what you described above is competition, which proves my point. This is classic head-to-head competition for the consumer's dollar. It cannot be any more clear or obvious. When you describe a company taking action to "retain their existing customers" or "draw customers away from" a competitor, you are describing competition for the consumer's dollar, regardless of how you choose to phrase it or present it.

If it's truly head-to-head, why would Home Depot essentially hide this rebate from their customer base? Head-to-head implies that they are doing the exact same thing and the fact that Home Depot does 0 advertising for this rebate makes a difference. For the 11% off, Menards sends ads in the mail, has radio/TV advertisements, has signs up all over the store, and a big banner on their website. Home Depot does none of that.

Yes, it's still competition but my point is just that there's a difference between playing offensive like Menards who is actively trying to steal customers from Home Depot and playing defensive like Home Depot who is just trying to appease their rebate-savvy customers.

Again, you're debating about a single marketing strategy. For some reason you're wrapped up in the semantics of "playing offense vs defense" in marketing. Let me break it down for you: IT'S ALL ABOUT GENERATING SALES REVENUE. Corporations devise and use a variety of strategies to compete for sales. Print ad, weekly sales, rebates, tv and radio commercials, etc. They invest millions to compete for a consumer's dollar, especially when the competitor is located 1-mile away in most markets, as are HD and Menards. So HD obviously has deemed Menards as a significant competitor in these markets where both have a large presence. They have hence deemed the "11% rebate" marketing strategy implemented by Menards enough of a factor also that they have decided to match it. In fact, they mirror it week after week like a shadow. Why? It's called competition for the consumer and the consumer's dollar within that market. If HD did not consider it a factor, they would not bother for one second to offer or mirror this promotion whatsoever. Keep spinning this how you like it. It does not change the facts. Menards and Home Depot are in head-to-head competition for the consumer dollar. Period.

Anyway, my original point was Home Depot should process and approve rebates for online orders as well, not just in-store or store-pickup orders. This is recommended even more so now since there is a pandemic, where it is probably better that consumers stay out of stores completely and not be encouraged to shop in B&M stores unless absolutely necessary. Unfortunately, the likely reason HD does not allow this for online orders is because that opens up the rebate offer to everyone, rather than just in markets where a Menards store exists.

Period.

I'm not sure how this drifted so off-topic. My point was Home Depot should process and approve rebates for online orders as well, not just in-store or store-pickup orders. Especially since there is a pandemic, where it is probably better that consumers stay out of stores completely and not be encouraged to shop in B&M stores unless absolutely necessary.
Yeah, we got way off-topic. I agree that they are competing, I agree that they have different marketing strategies, I agree that it's all about revenue/profit for big corporations, and I agree that Home Depot should do more to promote online shopping.
While I think they should update their rebate to be available for online orders (at least to addresses with a Menards in the area), I'm not going to go so far as to call their strategy "ludicrous," "irresponsible," or "dangerous" because they are not even advertising it or even telling the general public about it. And people still have the option of doing curbside pickup or just shopping online at Menards if they really need to do a rebate outside of the store. To me, HD not mandating masks until last week and not enforcing social distancing, cleanliness, or any their other COVID-19 policies is what's actually irresponsible rather than a rebate that practically no one knows about outside of Slickdeals. If this rebate was something they just created AFTER the pandemic started, then I would feel differently, but this Home Depot rebate was around for a while. I'm not going to be upset that they don't want to revamp the entire rebate process since since adding online orders (while still limiting it to the Menards store areas) would be incredibly difficult.

The fact that online orders do not automatically qualify is BS given that so many people made purchases that way because of COVID during the current rebate period.

All you get is an order number from the email confirmation and when you pick up in store they give you a sheet to sign as proof of pick up but they do not offer an actual receipt. I would have had like $50 coming to me if they provided the proper documentation via email or at the time of pick up.
For future set yourself up to get email receipts. I think I just did it once in store and now they email me a copy of the receipt, even for online-store-pickup orders.

I am guessing there is no way to avail this without a receipt? I mean my only other proof of purchase is a credit card statement.

Menards renewed the rebate again, but no update for Home Depot yet; how long do they usually take to match, or is it over on their side?

It usually takes a day or two for Home Depot to update their rebate site.
