One of the cheapest prices I've seen so far for a pack of 50 + sold & shipped by Walmart.

Looking at the way people wear masks gives me no confidence at all!
Masks under the nose, around the neck, pulled down or manipulated every other minute.
If they aren't being used properly, they're increasing the risk of infection.
I don't know why this is so hard to understand for Americans, but the primary reason for wearing masks is to reduce community spread, not to reduce the risk for the person wearing the mask.

I agree that wearing it under the nose or around the neck defeats both purposes, but as long as people wear a mask especially in closed spaces regardless of the type of the mask will help on reducing the community spread.

To everything there is a cost vs benefit ratio.
For many Americans, governmental overreach has a steep benefit ratio that many are unwilling to accept
Basically, we can be stubborn in our freedoms, sometimes to a fault.

If it offered no protection to the wearer of the mask & only to other people, why would they tell us to be super careful when you remove the mask in case there is virus on the outside?

Well, it doesn't hurt to be careful just in case, but unless you are wearing a N95 or P100 or a similar mask, the main benefit of using masks is to stop people that are sick and might not yet know it as they can be in a pre-symptomatic stage for weeks from spreading to other people.

This is why everyone needs to wear a mask even if it's a relatively simple mask since there is effectively no way of knowing if someone is a carrier and the main way the virus is spreading is via droplets exhaled from nose and the mouth.

Bought these, have a horrible smell. Hard to wear because they are stiff. Wear a bandanna.

jimmyd103Thanks for the heads up. I bought a box of these instead.
FYI, FDA doesn't allow any face mask manufactures to put its logo on package.

How to spot a counterfeit or low-grade N95/NIOSH/KN95 respirator mask.
FDA logo on the box
FDA registration certificate as proof of "FDA approval"
Loose earloops
Loosely packed masks without any packaging or labeling

FDA logo on the box
FDA does NOT allow a vendor to put the FDA logo on the box of a respirator.

Harbor freight had a ton of masks earlier today. Rural king had gloves, sanitizer and masks by the pallets. They had sanitizer on clearance they had so much. Nobody around here takes this shit serious so I can buy enough to supply my family who can't find anything where they live.

Great price, but bad deal. Walmart.com listing has a California Prop 65 warning which states, " this product contains materials known to the state of California to cause cancer". Do you really want to put this across your mouth and nose? Just saying.......

I think in most country, it need to pass certain standard before they can put the word "medical" on their product.

So if they have the word "medical" but didn't list the standard it meet, likely it is fake product.

Standard like....
  • Medical Face Mask ( China standard YY/T0969)
Basically this is a BFE (3.0 Microns Bacteria Filtration Efficiency ) >95% Mask. It is most likely a 2D flat base with 3 layers. Basically this is considered as a regular face mask that both US and Europe has higher standard requirement then this.
Other test standards go along with this mask will include:
GB/T 15979 for one time use hygienic standard. GB/T 16886 for In-vitro Cytotoxic, Skin Irritation /Sensitization (ISO 10993)
  • Surgical Mask ( China standard YY/0469 )
This mask standard is a bit mood because it is BFE > 95% and PFE ( Particle Filtration Efficiency ) > 30% only. Which doesn't match another standard in the US or Europe. But it does include the fluid-resistant test and the flammable test.
  • ASTM F2100 Level 1 2 3 (USA Standard)
China only has Surgical Mask which is only 30% PFE and F2100 Level 1 is 95%, Level 2 is 98% and Level 3 is the same with hight fluid resistance. So you are highly unlikely to find ASTM 2 or 3 in the China market unless they are US-specific factory.
  • EN14683 and EN149
Europian Standard use their sharp to different the two standards so EN14683 is basically the Medical Mask with no PFE filter just like China YY/T0969 . has Type I, II, III and representing 95%, 98, 99% BFE. And EN149 is the cup sharp respirator with PFE over 80%, 94% and 99%.
  • Surgical and Non-Surgical
The Europian standard surgical fluid-resistant represented by Type R at the end. For example, EN149 FFP2 Type IIR is basically the same as Surgical N95 and GB19083–2010 Level 1.
Thank you, repped

From the photo, it looks even thinner than those I got at Grainger for $5/50pk in February.
