The Craftsman brand has some cachet in America still. People don't care where their tools are actually made or designed. Just like their cars, as long as it has an American brand on it like Chevrolet, they'll buy that foreign made car over one with a foreign sounding name.

Oddly enough the specs show 1.3 and 1.5 amp hours for the two different batteries

I like design but seems has less power than dewalt current model.
Compare with
20V Dewalt DCD 796 UWO power is 450
12V Dewalt DCD 701 Uwo power is 250
20V Craftman drill Uwo power is 280

Well 280 power is not bad.. but I bought 12v dewalt for the light weight.
so it is cheaper but less power with more weight

Craftsman did sell to Stanley black and decker but Craftsman hand tools are still backed by the lifetime guarantee. These are the facts.

Did their power tools ever have a lifetime warranty?

I have to say, if you are in the market for a drill and impact in this price range, you really should be looking at the M12 sales currently going on. For $200 right now you can get a drill/driver, impact, hackzall, and ratchet. Unfortunately the brushless M12 combo w/ ratchet is sold out right now but at $200 that truly is a steal. I have that set and that impact driver is amazing. So small but so powerful. I also have Ryobi 18V brushless equivalents and unless I'm doing hammer drilling, I rarely use the Ryobi tools.

I understand $200 is not $99, but for $129 you can get the brushed M12 drill and impact driver. Their power output will be very similar in a substantially smaller package. Before I upgraded to the brushless, my brushed M12 impact had no problem driving 3/8 lags into pressure treated. That's the other plus with M12, there is a huge market for them, where Crafstman is going to be substantially harder to sell on the secondary markets.

Buy once, cry once. Todays Craftsman is not what it once was. I grew up with it so I feel the nostalgia but really you can do much better. Today it's just a name.

Any thoughts about this and the old Porter Cable 20v? I'm disappointed that PC is essentially left for dead which is why I'm moving onto the m18 fuels

Lifetime warranty still valid on hand tools. AFAIK no power tools ever had a lifetime warranty
