i have been looking for surround speakers for a while (months) to be precise and found these to be $399 for atleast 6 months but i wanted to hold off on all my speaker purchase until this winter so i can start setting up the basement home theater. I am just finishing my basement so i have time.

Also i was not able to find any good external reviews about these speakers and i am not sure about the elevated prices as well. the older thread from January boasts about the same good listening experience but prices are elevated a bit too much. I am not a fan of the weight and size of these hence i passed but these do sound like a beast as per the other thread.

here is the older SD thread where people are just raving about these speakers,

I am trying to setup a 7.1.2 in the basement where the wiring is all done and i am just taking suggestion from people and the AV forums etc so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Dammit! I paid $399 on 9/17/2019 when these showed up on SD the last time. Beautiful speakers!

Planning an up to 9.4.6 system for my basement. At least I ran the cables in wall for it already. Can these be used for any of the surrounds in this kind of setup or go with only the 703's if they ever come back in stock? Have never had the luxury of hearing anything past an inexpensive 5.1 system. So I have nothing to base this on other than the regal rpx experience when watching some movies at the theater.

These would make for great side and/or rear surrounds. You wouldn't want them for your main front stage and I wouldn't think they would work well for ATMOS — even if not sonically, hanging these heavy speakers for downward firing use would be interesting.

These are monopole speakers and can be used for Atmos (direct radiating). I use them as front heights and they work very well.

It was the weight I was more concerned about than the sound. They weigh 20 to 30 pounds each.

This isn't an all-in-one surround system. They are just two speakers. You'd still need an amplifier/receiver and additional speakers to get full surround.

I currently have a pair of 703's as front l/r, 704c, Polk s15 for surrounds, a pair of svs elevation primes for front heights and a pair of tl3 satellites for rear heights. I have an svs pb1000 in the front and an emotiva bass x 8 in the back of the room. The room is 13 x 11. Does anyone know if the 702's would be a huge upgrade over the s15's as surrounds?

What do you think of the SVS Elevation as heights? I bought a pair for my front heights, and I'm not sure I like them. I think my basement ceilignisn't high enough to get the full impact. I picked up a pair of Polk OMW3 that I just mounted in the back. I may just use 4 of these instead, for the price.

I like the elevations a lot. I have a hanging ceiling in my basement about 8.5 feet high. The elevations replaced a pair of Polk tl3 satellites. I was underwhelmed by them at first too but once I crossed them over at 80hz and turned the gain up a couple db's they were great! I ended up purchasing these 702's for my rear surrounds just because of the price and it rounds out the lsim set. Otherwise, I've been happy with the s15''s as surrounds. I also have some owm3's as well but haven't had a chance or felt the need to add them on to make a 5.2.6 setup. My media room is only 13x11. I was also considering switching out the rear heights (tl3) with the owm3's but since the tl3's are timbre matched with the lsim series, I decided to keep it the way it is for now. I used shoprunner so I'm receiving the 702's tomorrow. I might see how they work as heights as well to see how they sound vs the prime elevations. I am curious what the 702's will sound like if I were to mount them sideways with the tweeter and mid-range angled down towards the listening position like the tweeter on the elevation when mounted angled downwards.

Ordered a pair just now.
Will replace Polk Audio Signature Series S15 that are being used as back surrounds. Finally will have all LSIM speakers: 707s + 706 + 702)))

I got mine yesterday. Opened 'em today. I knew they were heavy, but holy crap, they are huge as well. They dwarf my FXiA6 rear surrounds and even moreso the RTi4 side surrounds they replaced.

So these would be a better option for the surrounds and read surrounds of a 7.x.x or 9.x.x system versus the 703's then, or for that matter any other option from Polk or others? I just can't decide and I don't want to purchase the wrong type of speakers.

On a side note, ceiling height is only 7 feet so I have to do in ceiling speakers only. Might go with Polk as well, or even JTR.
