Tesla Auto Pilot 50% off - $2000

I just realized that under the upgrade section of the Tesla app and website, the auto pilot cost to upgrade is $2000, down from $4000. Note that auto pilot is different from the $7k full self driving upgrade.

I thought it was always $2000 for the basic autopilot.

It was when I purchased my Model 3 last year.

It's $3k at time of purchase, $4k after purchase. I picked up my model 3 last month and opted to not include the $3k AP

True. I upgraded my Dec 2018 LR AWD model 3 about a year ago and paid the $2000.

Do you mean you got the $35k Standard Range Model 3?

Yes, indeed. I traded in my VW e-Golf that I, ironically, bought from a SD megathread last Summer.

How were you able to convince Tesla and remove basic AP for $3k ? That is unheard of.
You can call and get the base Model 3 for $35k (they don't offer it online - they call it "off the menu"). It won't have the basic auto pilot of some of the other features of the "standard range plus". And the battery is limited to 200 miles (atleast it used to be)

I actually don't use Twitter much, but I tweeted Elon that they should offer the FSD as a subscription service. That would guarantee a constant revenue stream for Tesla, and then maybe the rest of us could afford it. The FSD hardware is already in the car - seems to be going to waste if I can't afford the $7000 upgrade. If they made it $20 a month, I might do it. They'd also get way more people paying for it than they do today (atleast in my simple mind they would)
