It's live, but it's from an alternate Amazon seller with 17% positive feedback.

I bought the 6.5" version of this knife for $5.68.

It's the knife that I use what I have one or two things to knife and don't feel like hand-washing my Mercer. Then I put it in the dishwasher and don't care. The little blade guard is convenient because I just keep mine in a drawer.

It's okay.

WTF is Japanese grade steel? There is no such grade for steel. Misleading marketing mumbo jumbo like this always makes me weary about the quality of the product. Did they mean that the blade is made in Japan?

The mercer is $20-30 all day. I understand that's a huge difference % wise but it's not like you're buying them all the time even if you do abuse it in the dishwasher

Mercer Genesis 7" Santoku.

Low $30s on a very good day, more commonly above $40 nowadays.

It's really the only knife I need / want, so I probably baby it more than most would.

Japanese don't immigrate to China in most cases. That's like saying Americans immigrate to Mexico.

Does anyone have a recommendation for best budget knife? I just want a solid knife for every day use that won't dull too quick over time. Would this one do the trick?
