Why this over the LG 27GL83A-B? That has IPS and is g-sync compatible. Similar refresh rate and similar price. Seems like a pretty meh deal. TN should be way cheaper no?

Wouldn't the fp 27" gigabyte be a better deal?
I would imagine so as it is cheaper and is a VA panel. I guess Newegg is the only downside to it.

Take this for what you will.

I bought this monitor directly from Dell in July 2019 when it was around $280ish. Manufactured June 2019.
2 weeks ago it developed a stuck/bright green subpixel. Contacted Dell support, they sent out a "high quality refurbished" replacement.

Received it and within 10 minutes of using it (the time it takes to go through all the settings/adjustments and make it look decent) it vertical line appeared from top to bottom right down the center of the screen. Rather annoyed by this I contacted Dell support again.. requested a new monitor this time due to their "high quality refurbished" item being utter garbage. went back and forth for a week with no luck or empathy from Dell. Fine, I accept another refurbished.

2nd refurbished monitor arrived earlier today.. set it up on my vesa mount, plug it in and immediately notice a dark/dim spot the size of a few pixels in the top left corner of the monitor. Currently awaiting Dell's response to how they are going to take care of it... but I have zero faith they will actually care and put any effort in to customer satisfaction.

First and last Dell product I'll ever buy.

That is some bad luck man, I got a refurb S2716DG for almost 3 years now and no issue so far. *knocks on wood*

Dell is still one of the better companies out there to buy a panel from. But, that does suck bad.
