For portable storage? Sure, I think so. Do you have any recommendations for storage under $100?

Just 5 days ago a 5tb went for $85. Currently a WD 12tb for $209.

I'm also talking about a $ per tb. $20 a tb is not slick, I believe a decent deal is around $18 a tb and a lot of slickdealers are looking for $15 a tb.

Thanks op! Was just looking at this last week. My 2tb Drive is almost full and I have time during lockdown to copy all my photos over, and maybe even start going through them...
No you don't. Who are you kidding?

There is a big difference in price between portable vs full size drive that requires power. If you're looking for $/tb stick to full drives. Portability comes at a premium.

That being said all of WD portables have USB soldered on with no SATA so no go for me. I'd rather take Seagate in this form factor.

I've been going through my "photos/videos" every day during the lock down. Sometimes twice a day!! :-)

Yes all of the WDs 2.5" do.
No. A usb 3 mini b (iirc that's the one) is not a proprietary connector and is common on portable drives.

Definitely will work with PS4.
Should work with PS5, at least for PS4 games (see https://www.eurogamer.net/article...orage-6300).

According to WD's recent blog (https://blog.westerndigital.com/w...as-drives/) post about CMR/SMR, this should be a CMR drive as they don't make a 5TB 2.5" drive that is SMR.

I bought one 1-2 weeks ago when they were $99.99. I used mine once for backups. I didn't do a formal decibel test, but I find these drives to be quiet and relatively fast. I have the 2TB Passport as well, and I've had the same experience with it.

WD only distinguished their CMR from SMR for "our client internal HDD"s. You can make further inferences from the serial no.s inside of external drives, but they don't sell an internal version of their 4 or 5TB 2.5" drives.
