Is it shuckable? If this could replace 500gb on my PS4, I would grab it in a blink

Just 5 days ago a 5tb went for $85. Currently a WD 12tb for $209.

I'm also talking about a $ per tb. $20 a tb is not slick, I believe a decent deal is around $18 a tb and a lot of slickdealers are looking for $15 a tb.
18/TB wow, that's $10, you're such a savant. Are either of those drives portable or 3.5 and require DC power?.

insane that 5TB USB C version is 50% more than this. Would think C would be common place on this model now.

According to WD's recent blog (https://blog.westerndigital.com/w...as-drives/) post about CMR/SMR, this should be a CMR drive as they don't make a 5TB 2.5" drive that is SMR.
I believe these are SMR because they use the 1GB or 2GB platters which are SMR.

There is a big difference in price between portable vs full size drive that requires power. If you're looking for $/tb stick to full drives. Portability comes at a premium.

That being said all of WD portables have USB soldered on with no SATA so no go for me. I'd rather take Seagate in this form factor.
Then the seagate is better price point in the same form factor hence this deal is not slick.

You on crack? $18/tb, means this drive at 5tb should be 5x18 = 90, where you getting a $10? Confused

Seagate 5tb is $85, same portability/form factor. So this should not be slick or fp.

WD only distinguished their CMR from SMR for "our client internal HDD"s. You can make further inferences from the serial no.s inside of external drives, but they don't sell an internal version of their 4 or 5TB 2.5" drives.
so you're confident this is CMR?

They're saying you'd only be saving $10 at $18/TB vs this being $20/TB

The price difference is $10 ( a crackhead might find that notable), that's what you're arguing over as you're comparing different product lines. Where's the Seagate 5TB 2.5" external for $85? I see $110 and and $115 on Amzn, SMR drives to boot.

Just can't wait until SSD replaces these common disc drives. Probably another 10 years.

Unless someone prefers WD brand for their assumed reliability improvement over Seagate in which case this deal is slick.

No, when ppl talk about WD drives and colors, it's WD's identification system to indicate what type of drive you're getting inside. For example green typically means it's their low power usage and ideal for long term storage drive, not ideal for performance. Red used to be their performance drive, blue was somewhat in the middle, I forgot what black and I think there may be more now.

Only available in black? Forget it. Everyone knows the color of the hard drive is very valuable.
