Unless someone prefers WD brand for their assumed reliability improvement over Seagate in which case this deal is slick.
Exactly. Been building my own pc's since about '95 and, I'll never buy another Seagate. I've been burned too many times. WD for the win... ...or, for the lack of loss.

By now, 5tb SSD or 5tb flash drive should be standard.

What other 2.5" drives with or without enclosures should we compare against?

What's the amazon return policy for something like this? How long do we have that we can return it for?

$20/TB for portable storage is not a true slickdeal.

so you're confident this is CMR?
I meant to imply the opposite. There's no indication that this is CMR, and my guess is it's SMR.

thanks you. I'm going to hold off on replacing the 4TB, rather have the USB C model anyway, redic the spread.

Are these regular 2.5" HD's inside or modded with usb port? I'm swapping out the cd/dvd tray on a couple of my laptops with a bay to hold HD's ($6 on amazon) and this is the type of space I'd like to have. Use a fast SSD as boot drive and a big boy like this for backups....I could even see keeping it in case but USB 2.0 and 5TB do not go well together.
Pretty sure the WD's are not shuckable. Check google or reddit. They have proprietary connectors not sata.

So I think it would make sense to compare against https://www.amazon.com/WD_Black-D...B07VNTFHD5 WD black gaming drive. Has anybody comapred these drives side X side?

Looks like 7200 vs 5400 RPM drive, so slower...

I think for a long time, WD has been soldering the USB port onto their 2.5" ExHDD's. Perhaps someone else can shed some light on this.
