A swiss watch maker will remind you to bring the watch back every 4-5 years for maintenance.
A japanese watch maker will remind you to bring the watch when it STOPS being accurate after 10 years.
I have a Breitling chrono and a Seiko SKX diver. The Seiko is almost 8 years old now and still keeps good time and I've never had it serviced/opened. It's my beater/summer watch. Just had to get my Breitling serviced earlier this year for $450 (after 6 years of use).
And as of recently, Tissot has gone el-cheapo and now is using plastic components in their movements.

It's a hair smaller. I like the hands better and comes with a metal bracelet. I think the bracelet is ugly and I will change it ASAP but it holds value for resale.
Also it has a regular 2824 movement that has a smoother sweeping seconds hand than the powermaric 80.

Edit : trade off is power reserve. For smoother sweeping. I don't mind winding my watches so power reserve isn't a major factor
