Damn. these batteries are so damn expensive on their own, it basically makes no sense to buy them without a tool. particularly when i can get a weedwhacker with 4ah battery for $109. is the 5ah battery better in ways other than the extra capacity? cause i know the weed whacker could be sold for $50 in a heartbeat and net a 4ah battery for 60 bucks..

i remember a time when the 18v lineup was similar. hopefully the 40v lineup will eventually get more consumer friendly as far as having backup batteries goes.

I have a dozen 18V tools and batteries, but haven't made the jump to 40V yet.
I have an 18V weed eater and blower and love them because they are light weight and quick alternates to by gas Stihls. I think moving to 40V would mean the battery versions are just as heavy/powerful as the gas versions.
I am sure I will move to the 40V platform for blower/weed eater some day, but not much incentive yet (price too high, 18V works fine and shares batteries with all my other tools, also 18V batteries are cheap now with all the Buy 2 4ah get 1 Free tool deals).

Ryobi has an attachment capable trimmer and decent blower for their 18V line. They were the deal of the day yesterday for $210.
