FYI...These may be SMR drives case you are using them in a NAS.

The 64MB cache drives are CMR. The 256MB cache drives are SMR.

These are retail version of the WD40EFRX drive which are CMR.

Well it looks like the WD saga gets worse... after calls to BH and thoroughly researching this particular drive (from their site https://documents.westerndigital....5-idk.pdf) it looks like they've stuffed the 256MB WD40EFAX drives in these boxes despite all documentation available saying they are 64MB WD40EFRX drives.

Looks like a new issue based on reddit activity

The new way to tell now is

RED = SMR
RED Plus = CRM

Unfortunately the SKU numbers haven't caught up

Will likely be returning... disappointing but oh well
