While this isn't exactly a screaming deal, I know many of us are anxious for a Ryzen laptop with a good screen, battery, and cooling system. The full 80W 1660 Ti will perform about on par with the 65W RTX 2060 found in the Asus Zephyus G14. This laptop is easily a pound heavier, but the cooling is better, and it includes a webcam. RAM is not soldered, and the M.2 slots are accessible. The screen is 144Hz 300-nit, and was measured in a YouTube review as 332 nit! The battery is 70 Whr.

  • Ryzen 7 4800H 8-core 2.9Ghz
  • 2x4GB (8GB total) DDR4 3200Mhz (user serviceable)
  • 80W Geforce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB
  • 512GB NVME SSD (user serviceable)
  • 15.6" FHD WLED (300-nit 144Hz)
  • Wireless-AX (WiFi 6)
  • 4.6 lbs (5.42 lbs with power brick)
  • 70.9 Wh battery
Preliminary reviewsWhile this is available from HP.com, I found that any comparable configurations were much more expensive, particularly once you bump up the CPU/GPU, switch from 250-nit to 300-nit 144Hz screen, and add the RGB keyboard back in.

Has anyone seen this thing in person? I think the dimensions are pretty svelte for a mid-range 15 inch WITH the exception of the depth...it's a little THICK, haha. It's nearly a tenth of an inch thicker than the old model while simultaneously being almost .5 inches less deep and a smidge less wide. Weight is about the same or a little more.

Wonder if that would look weird/boxy, especially with the new hinge design and toned down looks.

One of the underrated laptops with legion 5, both of them perform well because of good thermals. I posted 16gb 1tb model a while ago and got bunch of dislikes https://slickdeals.net/f/14097464-hp-omen-15-6-amd-ryzen-7-4800h-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-ti-16gb-ram-1tb-ssd-1349-99

The RTX2060, at least on the Asus TUF 15, is also a full wattage model. Screen is likely better, cooling might or might not be. That said, this price is pretty high by comparison and I don't see it being worth what they're asking unless the screen is super high gamut or OLED.

The weight on the specs is with the power brick. The laptop alone is 4.6lbs. The G5,A15,Nitrto, and Legion are really heavy. The Omen is on par with the Zephyrus G15 and Bravo 5. The G15 costs a lot more than the Omen if you want a normal color gamut even if you account for a ram upgrade on the omen. (bravo and nitro have the decency of using a single 8gb dimm, omen need 2 new dimms).

I would get this if it was sold anywhere other than best buy. At this price you want the accident protections, geek squad protections means spending $100-200 more (than allstate, assurian, square trade when bought together)

At this price, it should have a better screen, 16GB RAM, possibly 2060 RTX.

16GB yes. RTX 2060 doesn't max sense. I mean, the 1660 Ti running at 80W is almost identical in performance to the RTX 2060 at 80W and most of these laptops have a Max-Q choked down to 65W. That is not going to get you better performance.

I do think Indigo's link with 16GB and 1TB for $100 more is a better value overall. Personally I'd buy this laptop over just about any other Ryzen option, because the cooling is great, the screen is great, and the battery is ample. I'm not crazy about the keyboard layout, but I could live with it. To me, getting a better laptop is worth $100-200 over getting one with a lot of compromises.
