Edit: See user scalisee's reply in the comments for instructions on how to purchase this deal if you are already an iRacing member.

This price came up for me. What are your thoughts on it? Is it good for casual racing or is this more for hardcore racing gamers?

Awesome. Is this a standard first time discount?

It can be fun for casual racing as there are a few different Unofficial/Fun series that don't impact your iRating or Safety Rating, but it is definitely more intended for hardcore racing gamers and sim enthusiasts. I am not sure if it is playable without a wheel and pedals. At this price it is worth jumping in and trying out all the free cars and tracks and seeing if it is something you can get into. It will definitely end up being expensive in the long run if you try to race any of the full official series as new cars are about $12 and new tracks run about $15, but there is enough free content and members that you can always find a race to have fun in without spending any extra as long as you don't mind it not being counted for career stats.

When I first got it, I signed up for 3 months at 50% off for $16.50 instead of $33. 12 months for $22.49 is absolutely insane and better than any discount I have ever seen for the service. I honestly think it might be a price mistake by Steam.

Does the subscription start as soon as you buy or can I sit on it until I get my racing rig finished up?

So anyone see a way to gift it? It's specifically says just for you at this time. Meaning its going to link to your account right away I believe.

Just bought it, best price period. Can immediately go to subscriptions and cancel, so you don't forget to. You still get 1 year of play time. Time starts when you buy the game.

OK for existing members, I tested and this works. Relinquish your current iRacing title from Steam > Support > Games and Software > Find iRacing and remove from account permanently.

Then navigate to iRacing store page and buy the 1 year subscription for $22 (shows in cart). Re-download iRacing, when you launch the first time it'll have you log into your iRacing and Steam account and relink them. Once logged in you iRacing account should show a year of membership. Don't forget to cancel the subscription in steam (Account Details > Manage Subscriptions)

worth it for casual racer? I'm not going to pay a bunch of money for addons, is there much available with just a base subscription without having to spend a bunch of money?

Not really unless you're really into the NASCAR series. The main selling point is great multiplayer matchmaking so you can race competitively and move up in licensing. As a casual rookie class is going to be brutal and makes a lot of people hate the game. Not to mention as soon as you rank up C/B you'll need to buy cars to keep up with the series. You'd likely have more fun and get better value modding Assetto Corsa or RFactor2. There's plenty of discords for solid racing leagues.

After seeing this mess of a sim on tv during the Covid online matches. No thanks. Driving through cars on pit road, clipping cars on the track with nothing happening, The damage mechanics oh lord.

Nah I'll pass. I would have thought after all these years this would have been more polished by now. Not to mention how they touted the advertisement on the commercials and had the announcers just throwing up details about the sim constantly to now hearing it's shovel ware and if you want more you gotta buy more.

Wow no thanks. I always thought the pay to play concept was stupid when they announced this. It's like WOW nothing more then a money pit.
