I think this is a decent deal. This phone only works on the crummy MVNO carriers, but this would be a nice cheap iOS device to use on WiFi or for app development.

If software performs well on an old device, it will probably perform extremely well on newer devices. Not true in the other direction.

Totally agree but unfortunately nowadays nobody cares about it and that's sad

Well it's easy. Optimizations do not bring money. Features and ads do. So instead of making it faster they push new stuff to slow it even more. That's a reality of present. Almost everyone does the same.
Just a heads up, T-mobile never require a certain carrier until the last promo (T-Mobile/unlocked 6/6s only for trade in). It might be an one time thing or a new thing from now on.
