I'm not going camping with it nor cooking for a crowd. And def not boiling 5 gallons of water. But in the previous thread people were saying they wanted this burner for stir fry outdoors so it doesn't stink up the house. I'm just tossing this idea out so others can consider a $35 solution to their problems vs a $80 solution (which I also considered) we're about being slick.

Not to mention gas burners put roughly 33% to maybe 40% of their energy into the pans (varies with stove, cookware, burner design, altitude, grate height and other factors.) Induction burners put in between 84% and 90%. So what you said is not entirely accurate about the puny 1800W induction cooktop top. Sure. It's still not as powerful as 60,000 BTU but it's not as big of a difference as you make it.
I guess the below is a rockstar for its price - safety hazards apart

Worth noting: this is the 14 inch version.

I bought one like this recently and unfortunately bought the pizza oven that is sized for the 16 inch versions. Doesn't work very well haha.

Just worth knowing Camp Chef offers two sizes. Obvious to many I am sure.

Looking for a 16 inch stove myself now haha

It's gotten thumbs up as a Slick Deal in the past for anywhere from $60 to $80+. I'd say it's not a steal, but still a good bit off the apparent usual price of $94-$99.

The 4 legs come off allowing it to be used with the tiny legs on the ground as well if needed and for storage. There is a foldable wind shield around the edge.

Overall a great camp stove with high BTU and this price is great... we use it a lot for backyard cooking than camping.

From what I can tell, the camp chef has a windscreen and removable legs. The former makes it safer and the latter makes it more portable. I think their values are a matter of how you plan to use it.

Cast iron vs cast aluminum burners

Leave the Home Depot one outside and face rust of the burners. If you protect it or break it down every time, I guess the value is there.

I leave my camp chef out and just cover it with a tarp. No issues so far.

Get the griddle. It's awesome. It's heavy as hell but it's a great addition to this. I've been using it at least 12 times a year and it's been going strong for over 7 years.

I ended up buying an induction burner for outside cooking for $35 the last time I was considering this thing. My purpose was to cook smelly stuff outside so it doesn't stink up the house.

30K - 60,000 BTUs versus 1800 Watts (~6000 BTUs).

Saute and fry, sure for one or few people.

Try boiling 5 gallons of water on an induction cooktop or cooking for a crowd Smilie
