Maybe dead. I can't get the discount to work. I added 10 from the link...keeps coming out to $170.

I've tried adding and removing but it won't update to the price their ad says.

I disagree. My great grandmother had comic books that were enjoyed by her kids, her grandkids, her great grandkids (me), and now some of them by her great-great grandkids. They are very worn, and some are a bit tattered, (and fixed with tape) but still readable.

I imagine that hardcover collections might last a little bit better. Anyway, if you take care of comics, they can be enjoyed not just by you, but in practice by 4 generations of your family. Try that with a digital subscription.

Thanks, picked up the following:

Batman: Gotham After Midnight
Invasion
Kingdom Come Parts 1 + 2
Earth One
Batman: Strange Apparitions
New Gods Parts 1 + 2
Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
JLA: New World Order

This was the cream of the crop as far as I could tell from reviews. For $46 shipped I could always buy another 10 if I missed anything, pretty good deal.
Also recommend The Nail / Another Nail, though the former isn't refreshing anymore, must be sold out. Great read with amazing Alan Davis art.

>Heads up that for me OP's link (via SD referral redirect?) was not showing all the books >eligible. Seems like 57 to choose from

Hmm - I'm only seeing 44 to choose from, no matter which link I use.

He gave good arguments for his own situation. He's in a small apartment and doesn't have enough space for them. For him, having an iPad filled with comics in a subscription is better for him. I have DCU and love it. I also have a small apartment and my wife would kill me if I bought a ton of comics. So, I read on DCU and buy the stories I really, really enjoy and know I would re-read. I have enough space for at least that.

Be careful. I added the books and they were all on the list of 10 for 35$ then when i checked out apparently 2 sold out but instead of taking them out of my cart it just raised the price up to normal so when i paid it paid the full price or like 190$. Contacted them and they said that those books were not on the list when they definitely were. They said there was nothing they could do. Not very good customer service but whatevs, just had to cancel my order.

I'm not saying that buying print is not worth it in every situation. Obviously print will be better than digital in certain cases. I was just pointing out that the comic book landscape has changed considerably in the last few years.

Take your scenario - Earlier the only option to gift to future generations were keeping physical copies. There was also the fear of books eventually going out of print. Before publishers digitized comics there was no other legal way to keep them. People used to torrent scanned PDFs/CBRs. Nowadays at least there is a viable alternative. One doesn't need to lug around tomes of books at every move, or have them constantly take up space for 20-30 yrs 'just in case' ones kids or grandkids read it someday. One can gift digital subscriptions with recommendations or just gift digital copies. I suspect future generations will be even more amenable to the digital experience than our generation anyway. And there is virtually no fear (ok, less fear) of digital versions going out of print.

Few years ago, I would have jumped at the opportunity to buy 10 hard cover graphic novels for just $40. But now since there are alternative options that suit my need better (in form of subscriptions or digital ownership), I don't feel as bad passing up on this deal.

My Ollies had many of these titles and more for like 3-5 a piece before the shut down I bought like 40 books for around 150 after tax. Might be worth a shot if you have one to glance at if you don't want to pay shipping or buy 10.

Such a great deal. It's so tempting to buy. Many times I came closed to placing the order. The price is almost too good to pass up.

But after much thought (and consternation at my own indecisiveness), I decided not to buy. Ten hardcover books will take up significant space (I'm in an apartment). And I don't care about collecting. After I've read something I'm never going to return to it. And so I would rather save space and read them on the iPad (which is a better experience anyway; just personal opinion; I know many comic book fans or print media loyalists will disagree).

Those of you who don't care about owning physical copies, and just want to read a comic book story and move on, I would recommend looking into DC universe instead. One year subscription is around $60 or $65 (when on sale). I realize it's more expensive than $40 print volumes. But in return you get an almost endless comic book library (albeit just for the time you have the subscription) and many streaming TV shows/movies. It doesn't have every title - i couldn't find some of the books on this sale there. But that's really a moot point for me; their library is already unfathomably large that not having the odd title is forgivable.

Just thought I'll give a counterpoint to owning these. Might be an unpopular opinion, but I personally feel that $60 on a 1yr digital subscription is money better spent than $40 on hardcover books.
Good thought. I almost impulse bought for $40. Yeah, I'd get a great dopamine hit when they first arrived, but I probably wouldn't end up reading half of them and the'd sit on a shelf. versus $8 for a month of exploring the DC Universe subscription and I'm sure after a month I'd have my fill of comics for a while. Plus Doom Patrol the show is supposed to be quite good.
