The question was if he could hook up a cordless phone to this. My answer simply gave him a cheaper free option to use his existing phone if thats what he wanted to do. I was in no way comparing the quality of calls or this phone in any way. Not sure why you felt it necessary to go off on a tangent about call quality from my comments. I personally have an obi202 on GV using a cordless phone and the calls are crystal clear.
Is there any monthly fee (like local govt fees etc.) to use GV with your cordless phone using Obi?

Assuming it has PC Pass-Thru so you can have one connection from your Switch to your phone on your desk, and then a connection from your phone to your computer.

It sucks to limit your computer to 100mb/s because you have the phone holding you back. This is very useful in enterprise where you can reduce the number of data drops by half, and for home it would help keep things neat as you have less long cable runs.
Aaah, okay, that makes sense.

Neigh. No fees at all using GV with obi devices. Been using it for years as my home number and never paid a dime in fees.

I was contemplating getting this for $129, but when I saw it for $79 it's a steal!
Been using mines for a few days now and it's awesome.
I run a small business and use Google voice app on my cellphone, and now have this phone to take my business calls when I'm out in the field.

Setup was a breeze, only took like 3 mins.
Overall, I'm very happy with the phone.
I have used obi and other sip based products, I just don't see a possible market for these anymore. Have you tried something like Microsoft teams, they are so feature rich that it leaves these phones like a couple decades old tech.

What is the difference between using this with Google Voice and using a nice wired headset hooked up to my aux port on my laptop?
You can make/receive phone calls w/o having to keep your laptop on all the time.

I am little confused because Ooma charges govt taxes and fees. If Ooma and Obi are similar, why does Ooma charge those fees?

If you want e911 service it's about $1 month. Whether you want that or not is up to you.

That works but... having had both the 200, 202 and an older similar 1032 phone, I will say there's is a huge different in quality between this digital phone and using a 200 connected to any standard phone. The 1032 calls are Crystal clear and loud while my older phone is weaker and often distorted.

I have a 202 and appreciate venya's response. I use GV and I am WFH IT Support.

Was contemplating this and appreciated the advice.

I beg to differ, plenty of folks out there still using SIP phones for one purpose or another. For me, I will be using this with GV, Asterisk and AudioCodes. Just getting this to get rid of the OBi200.

If you already have a n OBi200, you dont have to use an IP phone. I think you can use regular home phone. Am I correct?

So this is essentially a phone that works off of Google Voice like the adapter, but costs double? Why would you buy this?
