It's recommended to pair ram, but some ram chips are compatible together. Just get the same one to be sure, doesn't make much sense to mix them up.

Don't you need a pair to make this work correctly ?
Yes and no. Manufacturers do recommend buying the kit for dual channel to properly work. But you can buy the same model separately and it will work in most scenarios.

You can use just one stick but you are gimping the machine. You want to be running in pairs for dual channel goodness.

Can anyone tell me what type of RAM I need for this NUC?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

Thanks!!
Looking at the picture of someone opening up that device on Amazon it looks like you'd need a SO-DIMM stick of Ram. I'm assuming DDR4 but I couldn't tell from the picture. I didn't do any googling but in short this stick that this deal is for won't fit.

I remember when I bought a 2 pack of this in 2017 for $300 and that was a good deal.

Good times Frown
And you got to use it for 3 years. That's gotta worth something, right?

These are CL-16, just be careful if you're trying to run at 3200 on with a Ryzen cpu. I could not activate xmp profile in my gigabyte mobo with Ryzen 3700x CPU and as soon as I swapped for CL14 they overclocked to 3200 without issue and run great. Lots of info online about conflicts with anything but CL14 or Samsung b-die with Ryzen systems.
I'm running Ryzen 5 3600
With Patriot Steel Viper 3733MHz with XMP profile selected and its running great.

$110 for 32gb ddr4-3200 is not too shabby at all. I'm using team force ram in my current Ryzen 1700 + 2700x systems and zero problems, so the brand is fine.

I'm holding out for Ryzen 4000 desktop later this year, and no one seems to know what the top ram speed is going to be yet for x570 + ryzen 4000. Probably 3800-4000mhz

Dual channel is always preferred, especially if you're going to be doing anything like gaming or production. So yes, ideally these would be two 8gb sticks or two 16gb sticks for 32 total (16 is all you really need)

I got the motile laptop during Xmas when they were on sale constantly. Will this work properly in it? I know it only has single ram slot.

Personally I'm waiting for Ryzen 5000 but by the time it comes out I'll just wait for Ryzen 6000. I'm kidding I have a 3800x but in all honestly I believe Ryzen 4000 will be a marginal increase. With no real competition from Intel AMD can sandbag now just like intel used to. They can squeeze the 3000 series and rebrand it as 4000. They have all done it.
