Just a quick disclosure, Rtings used the 55" Hisense H8G model for their review:

50" model has 32 local dimming zones
55" model has 90 local dimming zones

Hence the price difference between the two. Rtings has an article that states:

"Local dimming is a feature found on some monitors that dims the backlight behind darker areas of the screen. This makes blacks appear deeper and darker on those parts of the screen, which can significantly improve the viewing experience when watching videos or playing games, especially in HDR. Unfortunately, no local dimming feature is perfect, and issues with the picture are common. Very few monitors currently support local dimming, although this is expected to change in the coming years, as HDR on monitors grows in popularity and technology improves."

The above is talking about monitors but the same concept applies to TVs.

Not saying its a bad TV, but if FALD is something that matters to you then you should know how many dimming zones youre getting for your model.

Understood - for gaming, though, I would assume input lag would be about the same for the 50" and 55" right?

And regarding local dimming - wouldn't a smaller TV require less dimming zones for the same effect? I don't know much about it, though, so that may be bad logic. Smilie

Im definitely not going to throw info I am not 100% sure about lol so I cant really speak about the input lag, however I believe they should be the same.

My only point was regarding local dimming, It definitely has an effect on the picture quality, thats for sure. Youre right in that a smaller TV would have lesser dimming zones, but we're talking about a difference of 5 inches, and 58 dimming zones.

Picture quality is better on the 55" than the 50", but both should offer great picture quality nonetheless. My only point was to let some people know about the amount of the dimming zones because I myself did not know. Still a great TV, in my opinion. I hope whoever gets it, enjoys it.

I got the credit via Online chat
What did you say to them? I chatted and then tried calling after seeing people get adjusted here, they are perfectly happy with me returning the one I got and buying a new one instead.

Had the same issue with price adjustment refund, chat agent couldn't do it but call agent was able. I guess the employees working over chat don't have the same level of authority as those working over the phone.

Like I said, calling didn't work for me. Said the same thing that they did in chat.

Perhaps whoever you spoke to didn't feel like going the extra mile for some reason. Person I spoke with transferred me to their team lead to process the gift card credit, I guess not all frontline agents are able to do refunds.
