Looks like a reasonable price. I have/had a RXA-660 Aventage receiver that was about 2 years old very little use... crapped out on me at beginning of March. Was lucky it was still under warranty, needless to say... I've been waiting over 100 days to get it back from being serviced. Not sure I'll ever want to purchase another Yamaha amp after this... Sad because I have 1 or 2 others that are older and worked well for a long time.

I don't think it's a good deal unless you want a 5.1 system right now and completely focused on Yamaha. I am not saying Yamaha is bad, just this deal is not good. I have been exclusively using Yamaha receivers for more than 10 years. They have been very reliable for me. Never had a single receiver go bad. Still have rx-a730, tsr7810 and rx-v 667 running in 3 rooms. 667 is running headless as my sacd pre amp right now and connected to a 5 channel amp. Upgrading to 7.1.4, and most probably it will be Yamaha or denon 3700. 667 will go to garage then.
If you can wait, wait till Black Friday, last year's rx-v 6xx will go for somewhere around $300 plus. For 5.1, any receiver will do, even go for rx-v 3xx. Most people will have network ready player like fire stick, bd player, tv anyway, so save some $$$ on this.

Keep your eye out over at accessories4less, been seeing the Marantz sr6011 go in and out of stock for $599. You'll just need an external amp to power 2 additional height channels to achieve 7.1.4 since it only has 9 amps but can price 11 channels. Recertified direct from Marantz with 3 year warranty. That's one hellb of a reciever for that price. Should also consider a second sub in there probably before anything too, and that marantz supports true 7.2.4 with 2 independent lfe channels and not 1 split into 2 like majority of mid tier recievers

I'll just wait for a sale on the 7850 or the 685...the 7850 used from deal parade for like 350 something, I almost grabbed the v683 very good condition from amazon for around the same price a few weeks ago but they're completely gone from those prices now...not sure how good the 683 is compared to the 7850 and 685...either way, I think this one is too expensive for what I've seen prices of better stuff...guess I'll wait for a 7850 sale to come around again

Seems like very few receiver deals right now, must be because of the shortages. These are not fantastic deals, but there's not much else avail right now unless you're looking on used market. Even costco doesn't really have anything, they have a Denon AVR-S750H but for $430. Wish they continued to carry the trusty 7850, at least you could get a decent deal on a decent receiver w/o breaking the bank and with that great Costco warranty. Remb the good ol' days with AVR deals from Frys?

This Yamaha 7850 Mfr refurb is a better deal for 329 + 45 for 4 years extended warranty. Purchased for my buddy and he received a brand new unit. You can do 5.2.2. (Actual Atmos)With this cheap Atmos enabled speakers if your room permits

I am still finishing up my setup, so the receiver will have to wait. Makes no sense buying receiver now and using later/hence eyeing rx-denon 3700 or marantz sr6014. I can't digest the look of the announced yamaha rx-a8, that coming from a devoted yamaha user. Probably will go with rx-a3080 depending on what is available at that time. I dont think sr6011 marantz will ever show up again. Its 3 generations old and I have been watching accessories4less for quite sometime. If it does, that would be sweet Smilie
About the subs, I do have 2 DIY 18's (VBSS) Wave 7.1.4 was just a main stream lingo, but I am using just one sub out for both the subs so, still correct. Probably will DIY a mini marty or two depending on the room response once the setup is complete. They are all going behind the AT screen, doesnt need to be beautiful.

Back to the thread. Again, this is not a good deal unless one is looking for a yamaha receiver in particular and need a 5.1 right now. Check out best buy open box, much better 5.1 receiver deals there.

I have this receiver and if you're okay with the 5.1 and no preouts then this is great reciever. The only annoying thing about this reciever is the remote because there's no display of which input its on. So if I'm 9n HDMI4 and want to switch to HDMI1, I either have to press input until I get to it or look at the reciever or use the app on my phone to switch to it. The nice thing is that their app is quite nice and does allow you to quite a few things. I was used to having remote that had display and buttons for switching directly to different sources (her 5790). But apart from that, this reciever is great and has bunch of other features that maybe useful to others like Alexa integration, etc. If i had an option to upgrade to 7850R for another 70 bucks then I'd surely go for that but if you are content with the features of this receiver then yiu don't have to spend the extra bucks.

This is a good receiver but I got the Onkyo Dolby receiver TX-SR393 with Dolby Atmos for $249. And in my opinion, it sounds better than the Yamaha does. This Model Yamaha doesn't have Dolby Atmos. I tried them both and I noticed a huge difference in sound. Be careful with open boxes right now if they ship them. I had one shipped from the Best Buy Chicago sold as Excellent Condition but it came shipped with heavy use and damage. Looked like a store display item. So hard to find some receivers right now.

My local Costco has plenty of 7850s in stock but the price is 489 (I think...). No idea why they are not showing this receiver as available online...

And on the topic of shortages... I'm still waiting for my Sony 7.2 receiver purchased during the Memorial Day weekend. Availability listed on the Abt.com says 2-4 weeks. Crazy!

costco holding the goods hostage at a higher price too...maybe they'll release the clamps around the 4th also reducing the price and just maybe, woot will have a sale on the 7850 again

FWIW, the reliability on these Yamahas is rock solid. I have an RX-V381 that I got from Best Buy open box for $180 3 years ago driving five Infinity speakers and a Dayton Audio sub and it's a workhorse. No issues with it whatsoever. The only way I'll replace it is when I get an 11 channel receiver for that sweet 7.1.4 Atmos setup.

I have the exact same receiver and it's powering my 5 klipsch speakers!! 4 years strong here
Nice, I got the RX-V377-R myself back in 2014 for ~$120., it's been good to me for 6 years, but no 4K has me wanting a new one.

Love Yamaha products, and use one now, but I did not pay much more than this for a 7.1 Yamaha with atmos, more inputs, and full 7.1 preouts (of which I use the front channels)

Thinking about going this route. I've been eyeing the x1600h for 450$, but the 7850 seems like a better deal.
