For whatever reason, over the last month I've gotten into watching videos about quality footwear and so I've been tempted in trying a pair of Allen Edmonds. I've been eyeing these boots: https://www.allenedmonds.com/shoes/mens-boots/lace-up-boots/higgins-mill-boot-with-waxed-suede-leath... [allenedmonds.com] and was considering buying them when they were on sale for $300, so naturally I HAD to buy them at $187.48. I really hope it's not a night and day difference from the boots I already own because I'm worried about justifying future Allen Edmonds purchases in the future...

Also, is it required to have OCD when being an Allen Edmond's customer? I keep hearing stories about people sending back their Allen Edmonds for the slightest imperfections.
They are very nice shoes but remember they may take a good month to break them in. I was cursing when I got my first pair for the first few weeks because they hurt like heck. Also, they will not be as comfortable as a pair of tennis shoes, so don't get those false expectations.

I'm also not too into shoes, but I just want to say... I find it interesting there have been a number of "factory seconds" Allen Edmonds deals... for me, it is strange, because why would you buy a high end clothing item that has imperfections? That's the only thing I can say

Edit: Wondering about their EEE sizes. I definitely am at least "wide"... I guess I can always buy, then return? Assuming black is the safe color if just getting one
Edit 2: Found this for determining shoe width - https://www.wikihow.com/Determine-Shoe-Width
I'd highly recommend trying to find somewhere that sells them and try them on. Normally I wear 12, sometimes 11.5. For AE, size 11EE or even EEE is the best fit for me. It's very weird.

Luckily with new shoes from AE (not factory seconds), you can try them on and return them for free until you find the right got. Unfortunately for me, I tried on all iterations of possible sizes that might fit and AES are just not for me (at least not the lasts associated with the styles I wanted).

These are great prices...but at the moment I have several pairs, but nowhere to wear them. Our company is remote working until at least October. but AE at this price are some of the lowest I have seen.
Same here! I have thought putting them on eBay. I live in Austin, and damn near no one here wears dress shoes haha.

I wear EE/EEE in certain Italian brands and AE's E is comparable to EU EE, plus their shoe size is about 1 size larger than other US dress shoe sizes.

Now they are for $131.25. See if you can get the price difference. Good luck.

I buy seconds because I like getting AE quality at deep discounts. And I've not been able to find the imperfections or they're so small it's really not a big deal.
Just bought some Nomad plain toes for $75. Can't pass that up.

I have a pair of the Higgins Mill boots in brown leather and they're my favorite pair of boots. They don't look out of place at the office but still look great with jeans. I wear them all the time in the late fall and winter. Granted, since you got the suede version you'll have to be careful with getting them wet, but once they break in, they're quite comfortable. As someone mentioned, they're not going to feel like a sneaker, but like a comfortable dress shoe with a rubber sole. They do get kind of hot, so I don't wear them in the summer. For $188, that is a steal. I think I bought mine for around $300.

I agree. Also, if you wear these multiple times a week, you're bound to get scuffs, scratches, spots, etc on the shoes from daily wear and tear. Why pay the extra $100+ for perfect condition shoes?

My work requires constant travel between buildings for meetings, so you never know if you'll get rain/snow/shine. I try to not wear them on obvious rainy days, but it still happens. Just keep em polished, cleaned, and use a shoe tree.

Macneils for $140? Helluva deal. Macallisters at $200. Sooner or later the virus cloud will lift. This southern boy needs a new pair of wingtips.

You shouldn't even be wearing dress shoes if you walk often in the streets. Your shoes will take a beating. You're better off bringing a pair of nice tennis shoes and just switch them when you're at the office. Dress shoes will never be as comfortable as regular shoes.
