You can tune these to 16-21-21-42 @ 1.4v if you are comfortable doing it through DRAM calc.

I recommend using Thaiphoon and export xmp profile to dram calc. Inputting the values myself gave me too tight of a timing causing boot problems.
What performance gain do I get if I dont set the sub timings?

Like i said, there are multiple versions of LPX 3600. I'm attaching the Thaiphoon Burner extract, from the pair I purchased last week, most likely the same batch. B die.
Most of these kits are actually Samsung C-die. Thaiphoon Burner just misreports it.

You can confirm by referring to the Corsair Version number on the stick labels. Ver 4.31 is B-die, Ver 4.32 is C-die.

C-die doesn't do tight timings and wont scale with voltage past ~1.35v making them quite difficult to overclock.

I haven't had the chance to test that yet but my system is stress test stable at those timings. I put in pretty much every setting from DRAM calc including all the advanced tab settings.

Here's a good resource if you want to know about it in general: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/ram-overclocking-should-you-tighten-sub-timings-for-gaming-in-depth-frametimes-analysis.256327/

Tl;dr, sub timings will improve about 1-5%

DDR3 is gradually being phased out for DDR4, so I suspect prices are going to trend upwards as suppliers switch over. Note how expensive DDR2 is today (if you can find it).

EDIT: And it's not like DDR3L is all that expensive. 2x8GB is only about $60 if you're not too picky about brand. Example [amazon.com]. Or a faster set for $10 more [newegg.com].
Thanks so much. I don't know much about computers so thought I had to buy a crucial brand recommend by some website.

I have a Dell Optiplex 3040M, do you know if the G Skill one you listed will work with that?

Could you recommend a 3200 ram 2x8gb kit with good timings that overclocks well ? Looks like I have the c-die Thanks.

Well, I don't know for certain if its motherboard supports the faster timings of the G Skill sticks, but those are the more well-known brand. Basically, it should work fine, but might be overkill compared to cheaper RAM.

(EDIT: FWIW, Silicon Power isn't a generic fly-by-night brand either, but they're more well known for flash media than RAM, whereas G Skill is one of the major players along with Crucial, etc.)

That's good to know. So do the primary timings have a greater impact?

Good call! Mine says v4.32 and probably a c die. No way of overclocking it further either way.
