Routers that use 802.11ac (draft 2.0)

Curious, friend gave me an old Belkin ac750 router that uses 802.11ac (draft 2.0) https://www.belkin.com/my/p/P-F9K1116/

Does a firmware upgrade to the latest version change it to the final draft of AC? Does it matter that it uses the draft version?

I don't think it makes any real difference you have it for free I think I may have the same as a 2nd backup router.

Read the release notes on the firmware, it will say what's been changed. It depends if they were able to do so without any hardware changes or not and if it was worth the time in making the changes from draft to standard. Sometimes companies don't spend the money needed to re certify it either.

Either way you want to make sure it has the latest router firmware installed for security reasons. This looks to be quite an old router, probably over 6 years old if it's a V1. Most router manufactures don't support things past a few years old, unless it's a super popular model. When you stop getting firmware updates, it's time to buy a new one. A router that has gone years without a firmware update is most likely vulnerable.
