If we're mostly doing smoothies, is the taller classic shape better or the newer lower and wider better for mixing effect?

They make a non wide 48 ounce which fits perfect under cabinets which I use. You dont need 64 ounce smoothie jar. 48 is more than enough.

The wide jars were created so you could have a low profile machine but there are pluses and cons with the wide jars. Also the wide jars need more horsepower.

In either case, you cant lose. I also got a dry grain 32 ounce jar for 50 bucks on sale at vitamix. Yes, you can do more than just dry grains in it.

Just dont get a blendtec. When it comes to smoothies, Vitamix is the king. Blendtec blade seal design is flawed. Vitamix blades are removable.

The only reason I want a Vitamix outside of the quality is the full variable speed control, this one does not have that correct?

I have the dry grain jar but haven't used it. Please share what you can do with the dry grain jar. TIA

This is old generation tech.. it's basically a 5200 with 3 speed settings instead of a fully variable speed setting. It's a good deal for the money. It will come with a 5 year warranty instead of the 7 for the 5200 or 10 for the new generation models. Good reviews.

The narrow containers with the shorter blades do seem to do a slightly less efficient job than the newer models with wide containers and blades though.

I

Sugar to powder sugar.

Berries cut into little pieces that you can add to your wet container smoothie.

Chunky salsa since it wont blend the salsa into a mush

rice into rice flower

vegetables into chunks like for fajitas. You dont want blended vegetables.

And yes, you can make basic smoothies. Wet is better to make fruit blended smoothies

also for grinding dry grains to prevent thrashing your Wet blade container. Dry grains can be like sandpaper to the container.

Plus you can change the blades on dry with a wet blade. Now you got another wet blade container.

Was on sale for 50 bucks...but I see they charge 150 on amazon.
