This is true for all hard disks.

Computers count in base-2. Humans count in base-10.

Thus 1 Kbyte to a computer is 2^10, or 1024 bytes, where the more obvious equivalent for a human is 10^3 of 1000 bytes.

8GB of memory for a PC is 8 x 1024 x 1024 x 1024, so 8,589,934,592‬ bytes.

Many, many years ago hard disk manufacturers realized they could cheat. They released hard disks that were sizes like 10MB (yes, MB! It really was that long ago!), but instead of making them 10 x 1024 x 1024 = 10,485,760 bytes, they made them 10 x 1000 x 1000 = 10,000,000 bytes - because it saved them a few dollars, and the difference was fairly small.

Fast forward to today, and this 5TB hard disk is 5x1000x1000x1000x1000 = 5,000,000,000,000 bytes. But when you plug it into your computer, the computer still think in terms of base 2, so it considers the hard disk to be
5,000,000,000,000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 4.547TB in size, so that's what your operating system will show.

I actually have one of these exact drives plugged into a Unix system, and here's what it shows :
scsi 11:0:0:0: Direct-Access WD Game Drive 5002 PQ: 0 ANSI: 6
sd 11:0:0:0: 9767475200 512-byte logical blocks: (5.00 TB/4.55 TiB)

Note the distinction between 'TB' and 'TiB' on the last line. To avoid this confusion SOME devices use TB to refer to the base-10 numbering, and TiB to refer to the base-2 (sometimes called base-1024) numbering. So Linux is clearly showing this drive is indeed 5.00TB, but also 4.55 TiB.

So yes, it's a "5TB" drive. But you're only going to be able to stop ~4.5TB of data on it. Just like all other 5TB drives...
Since this is so hard to find on the Amazon page:
This is a 5,400 rpm HD that will max out at ~125 MB/s io
Nope, this one is 5400 as well. You may have looked at the larger desktop drives (3.5 vs 2.5).

Nope, no SATA connector, USB board soldered on.

anyone knows why many claim it's "a 4.5TB drive" instead of 5TB?
"Also there is confusion regarding storage capacity, since capacities are stated in decimal Gigabytes (powers of 10) by HDD manufacturers, whereas some operating systems report capacities in binary Gibibytes, which results in a smaller number than advertised."

Curious about the thumbs down: bad product, not a good price?

EDIT: Never mind, it seems to be a repost, with a couple of thumbs up: https://slickdeals.net/f/14162135-5tb-wd-black-p10-game-drive-usb-3-0-portable-hard-drive-100-free-shipping?v=1

Great drive. Not using it for PC but ps4 however have had no issues and the build quality is high. Aluminum hard case instead of plastic. SSD will be faster though so it depends on what you are doing.

In for one to expand my son's gaming PC. I don't expect SSD performance, but for the price, it's a ton of extra room for games and mods.

Is this drive better in any way than the WD My Passport 5TB drive on sale for the same price today?

My understanding is for manufacturers 1GB=1000MB, whereas your computer sees 1GB=1024MB

How would load times be on this for pc gaming? Im currently saving them on my 1tb m.2 nvme.. Which is also my boot drive with Windows 10, but Warzone is taking up a lot of space.
