Thanks and Reps to you Smilie

..... do you happen to know if this Warren people also make the oils for others/brands, like Valvoline, Penn, Castrol?

I was in line at a local speed shop, and i overheard guys talking about how some brands are actually made by the same manufacturer .... i cannot remeber today which names they mentioned, but it was Big Boy names, major brands.

...... I'm not a Gear Head, but I'd kinda like to know what others know, please ... no point in buying syn Castrol for 5 a quart when the same formulation is in Valvoline for 3 or 4.

Again: TIA 👍

I know for sure that Warren makes for Amazon basics oil and for "peak" which is warren's own brand name oil. Peak makes other car stuff like anti freeze. They are all probably identical products with different labels.

Other manufacturers like shell have several different blends of oil and different oils with different branding (sopus owns shell, rotella, Quaker state, pennzoil)

I wonder if 0w-16 is really necessary as an alternative to 0w-20. If so, maybe we should hold out for 0w-17 or 0w-18 (0w-17.5?j to make sure we get it just right.

Sure thing! I don't know about any other oils though. Some companies are just "blenders" (like amsoil) and they don't drill or refine oil. I heard amsoil buys their oil from Mobil.

As an engineer I always wonder about brand engineering and how many (or few) companies are actually the same product packed in different boxes.

I remember changing a valve cover gasket for a friend on his vw and I bought the felpro gasket. The one in the box had the VW Audi logos + OEM part number sanded down but you could still see them, so they must be the original equipment manufacturer for VW.

it's always going to go down due to CAFE. 0w-20 through 5w-30 is fine

Could be a bad check valve/anti drain back valve in the oil filter? If oil drains out of filter during non-use, if can cause startup noises - ticking lifters, rod noise on higher mileage motors.

Thanks. Started using a new filter brand so that might be it. It's a Toyota at 240,000 miles
