Beats previous Front Page deal on this which was $499. This is the best telescope for beginners according to wirecutter.

I debated this and the Nexstar 6SE and 130SLT. Went with 6SE because of price at the time. The 5SE has a wedge mount included that is going to cost me $300 down the road for my 6SE. If you just want to look at solar system objects such as Saturn Jupiter Mars Moon and Sun, this is more than enough I would say. If you are interested in Astrophotography you may want to consider bigger.

I only had my Nexstar 6SE for a month and I love the computerized motor mount to help find stuff in the sky. Definitely recommend tracking motor mounts that this deal has. I went with the Nexstar series because of form factor and size in the house. I seriously was considering the $350-ish Celestron Nexstar 130SLT. It's a longer tube but does come with a motor mount. The 5SE looks to be a beauty if you could afford it. Keep it in good condition and I'm sure you could get good value when resale it locally later for something bigger if you need to scratch the itch.

I almost bit. I hesitated. I missed it.

I'm in the market for a beginner telescope, so I appreciate the post, OP.
