Costco has one also with Ryzen 7 4700U that I bought for $750 before tax. But that one has 16GB RAM. This one is $220 less! Still I prefer the Costco 4 year warranty and the 16GB already present and ready for use. But the price point is incredible on this one! $530!

The model you're referring is the Ideapad Flex 5 2-in-1 model which is one step higher in the chain than Ideapad 3.
IdeaPad Laptops are really basic Laptops, designed for regular usage like documentation, Browsing, school and college works etc. However, due to the Ryzen 7 4700, which is a extremely powerful Processor, this Laptop can be used for a lot of CPU intensive tasks like Code Compilation, Video Encoding, Excel number crunching etc.
If you plug this to a high quality external display with good color gamut coverage, you can actually do all kind of Photo and Video Editing on this, even moderate 4K editing due to the 8 Core CPU and pretty solid VEGA 7 Graphics.

Great deal for this ryzen 7 laptop. Got the hp x360 with a ryzen 5 for $520 at best buy n love it. Handhelds gaming amazingly well. Though my x360 has a better ips panel screen sooo maybe this deals not as good even though has faster processor.

IdeaPad 5: https://www.officedepot.com/a/pro...56-Screen/

Same price, but IPS display instead of TN (and much brighter - 300 nits vs 220), better build quality (lid is metal), about 27% larger battery capacity (57 Whr), USB-C (supporting Power Delivery and display output), HD instead of VGA webcam, slightly lighter at 3.66 lbs (Office Depot specs are wrong)

Downsides: Ryzen 5 4500U with 6 cores instead of 8 (plenty fast), 8GB RAM is not upgradable (again, OD specs are wrong), half the SSD capacity (but cheap and easy upgrade), 1 fewer USB-A port

The IdeaPad 5 is a much better buy.

I don't understand what's all this hate about. At this price point it's an excellent buy. Yes it's not IPS panel, however TN on laptops is just fine. It's really not that big of the deal, stop fooling yourself. It's plenty bright and you can barely see the color shift. Saying TN panel is bad is like saying i7 is best, forgetting there's different types of i7, i.e. i5 of 8th gen better than i7 of 7th gen. Point, it's fine, for what you're paying you're getting 512 GB NVMe ssd instead of 256 SSD like many other offers. 8 cores instead of 6 cores will show signs of superiority down the line, unless you buy new laptops every year...
You do get 8GB of ram which is about a standard for laptops at 500$. Vega 7 isn't the most powerful iGPU but if you want a gaming laptop please invest more and don't give this affordable and powerful machine hate. For what you're paying for it, that's about what I'd expect

15.6" 1080P 220 Nits Anti-Glare TN Panel
8GB (4GB soldered + 4GB DIMM)
3.75 lbs

4700U at this price is very tempting.

Even 4500U is killing i7-1065g7.
4700U >> 4500U >> 4300U= i7-1065g7

I'll be using an external 4K monitor, so the screen is not an issue for me. If I bring the RAM to 20GB, will this handle video processing well?

I see. Thanks for the explanation. Step down in the chain or not, a computer with this spec (apart from the memory) for this price is just incredible! And yes, I am using an external monitor anyway, so the laptop screen is not so critical to me.

Personally, I think I need the 16GB since this processor is integrated graphics so the graphics will use some of the RAM. If the machine has 8GB, then there is even less for the normal tasks such as opening multiple tabs in Chrome. Therefore, I won't buy this, but I am still very impressed by the price.

Just add replace the 4GB user accessible module with a 8Gb or 16GB stick, costing $30 and $50 repectively.

The listing states that max memory is 12GB. Is this an error?
