Just add replace the 4GB user accessible module with a 8Gb or 16GB stick, costing $30 and $50 repectively.
Agree. Though if I am buying something new, I rather that all that work is done for me :-). Yeah, I can be lazy :-).

And I am not sure, if one slot is 4GB and the other is 8 or 16 GB, what is the performance impact of that lopsided configuration?

I agree that this is a fast machine as I have one and added a 16 GB memory stick (bringing it to 20 GB). Two points that could be an issue to others, besides the screen brightness. In my model, there was only one NMVe slot available, and could not install second storage. A second point is the quality of the Webcam image, really grainy even after BIOS was updated to current.

I don't mind soldered as long as it's got a slot for at least 32GB more. Not even bothering with this one after seeing the specs above with the TN screen, though. EeeeeeYUCK!
You're expecting the world for a $500 laptop...okay.

What laptop can take an extra 32GB? I'd love to get an example.

You have this exact same model?? And were able to update the memory for 20Gb total??

Another Ryzen laptop with a subpar screen. I think these are posted everyday on SD.

This one. Read the specs before making an ass of yourself.

I said nothing about what I expect at any given price point. I DID say I do not want a TN screen. Take your condescending BS and shove it where the sun don't shine until you can learn to get it right.

I thought this was a great deal until I saw it was a TN panel. Don't get a tn panel on a laptop unless you plan to use it as a desktop replacement. If you are moving and shifting the laptop all the top it becomes annoying when you have to tilt the screen and your head to get that perfect viewing angle every time you open the laptop.
On the other hand, it's a laptop.

1) If you move the laptop and have to open the laptop at the new location, aren't you already adjusting the screen?
2) Generally, only one person is looking at the screen and they're sitting right in front of it. So viewing angle really isn't an issue.

I've had the S340 since Nov of last year. Plenty bright and easy reading.

Thanks for that. I guess I'll wait for a 1650 on another decent laptop or wish that one with this processor and a 1650 goes on sale.
https://slickdeals.net/f/14167391-acer-nitro-5-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-10300h-17-3-1080p-ips-8gb...Here is a 17.3" but about $200 more. But you are getting quite a bit more for your $. I tried to shop around but this is the cheapest I could find.

This looks like a pretty good deal for a WFH setup. Laptops are not optimal for working at a desk. Using a laptop--any laptop--forces you to tilt your head down at the table. A screen should be an inch or two below your line of sight with your head and eyes looking straight forward.

I realized this and I've hooked my laptop up to two external monitors. I haven't looked at my laptop screen for the last 2 months. Having an external monitor (or two) is a game-changer for productivity.

A 4700U with Vega graphics is easily more than powerful enough to drive a couple high-resolution external monitors and run productivity applications with ease. Plus, once we're done with WFH, it's a decent enough laptop to give to a child or cousin or something. Kids don't necessarily need IPS 500 nit displays.

I use this laptop to play World of Warcraft. and League of Legends I bought it a couple weeks ago in-store and I haven't had any problems with it the only thing I think is kind of weird is the touchpad is over to the left more so gaming can be weird. I honestly don't mind the screen too much but that's also because I don't have too much experience with screens. I'm going to throw another stick of ram in it just for stability and probably a fan underneath to help prevent any type of overheating. The battery isn't the best on it but I mean if you just keep it plugged in for most of the time you should be good. You get what you paid for and right now I'm cheap so I'm happy with what I got.

4700U at this price is very tempting.

Even 4500U is killing i7-1065g7.
4700U >> 4500U >> 4300U= i7-1065g7
Shows why Intel has been overpriced for some time.. kind of why gaming laptops or those with good screens are over $1k...

This laptop has been around for a couple of months now I got it when it was 519 and threw a 16gb stick of ram in it. Very fast machine.
I was going to say this exact same thing. I'll eventually switch out the screen, but the screen is not that bad unless you are in direct sunlight. Handles video editing a lot better than my i5 desktop.
