Sadly I lost 240 films and 70tv shows
I know it sucks, but be glad that Vudu did not close your account for violating their terms.

Wait. Is Vudu disc to digital no longer available?
MD2D is still available. This could be the last year, because it was Walmart's idea.

That seems to be the argument, but Vudu knows that would have led to their demise. They would have closed A LOT of accounts. They just wanted to show they were in control, not go bankrupt.

I was fortunate in that I did not lose any movies because I never did the whole instawatch thing. I still think it is complete and utter bs what they did, though. The sales have largely been garbage since Fandango took over too.

It's so bogus how shindler's list cheated The Wrath of Khan out of it's rightful academy award that year. Wasn't even film in color, how lame!

Pretty weak considering many of these movies already released in 4k HDR and on this sale you will only get 1080

Instawatch allowed a person to buy a Blu-ray and receive a link that automatically added the movie to their Vudu account. Some sellers would preorder movies in bulk then sell the instawatch copies cheap.

Wal-Mart claimed what they were trying to do was fix a glitch because Instawatch movies were only ever supposed to be redeemed on the Wal-Mart.com email address that bought the movies should have the instawatch copy.

What they actually did was revoke any instawatch movie that was bought using one email address but redeemed by a different one. Supposedly they only did this in a fixed period of time and it's over as of the finalization of the FandangoNow merger on July 1.

Every week each service (Vudu, Apple, and often Amazon, FandangoNow, and Google Play) have their list of $5 HDX or 4K streaming movies to "buy" (where buy = rent with a TBD expiration date). The sad part, as I have often commented is:

Decade of 2010: Most physical Blurays with full DTS HD soundtracks and extras were $5-$6 in numerous dump bins or Black Friday sales.
Decade of 2020: For the same $5 you just get a streaming digital copy with DD+ sound, usually no extras.

Physical media is now scarce and $5-$6 deals are rare. We live in $13-$40 MOD-ville if you want physical Blurays. It seems like a much worse situation. I guess it's only technology and medicine that improve over time. It seems the media and retail market gets worse over time. Yeah, I like to complain.

Thanks for 'splaining the Instawatch situation. I probably heard the story before but forgot it since I never once redeemed an Instawatch in spite of buying many dozens of Blurays at Walmart every year and probably having them on some of my receipts, especially on BFs (less and less every year as deals/inventory got worse). I never bothered to link my Walmart.com and Vudu accounts, but maybe they are automatically matching up the email address.

I think a few weeks ago I got several emails from Walmart.com saying that some Instawatches I never claimed from who-knows-when are available. I suppose someday I should check into those, though it still seems pointless because I have the physical Blurays, and I think it's worth having to store discs, stick them in a player, and trying to get past the evil ads/previews for better quality vs. the convenience of streaming. I'm glad I have Gone with the Wind on physical Bluray before all the streaming services delete it and other movies due to the blowing winds of the thought police.

Sounds like I'm boycotting Walmart too. What a mess. Fandango should go after Walmart for impacting their future sales.

Me: I have a successful auto repair business, would you like to buy it?
You: Yes, I would.
Me: Sold! (Tries to remove spark plugs on multiple cars in for repairs and ends up snapping them off inside the engine block).
You: I'm going to sell a service to customers and do it with a business that has a good reputation.
Me: *Yeah you are*

Some time later...

Me: Hey, sorry about the bad publicity. I just wanted to see if I could get things running right my last night in the shop, since I told you all the cars had been repaired when you bought the place. I realized I fugged up, but also knew you were taking over the next morning.

Do you guys that know the number of movies you lost keep track of your digital movies outside of Vudu or is there another way, say for the less organized individuals amongst us, to figure out how many movies were lost due to the IW purge?

people whining about instawatch knew the risk. They got 4k movies for 3 bucks. Consider it a rental and a wash because they should have shut down those scams long ago.
