I have this one. It is very powerful. The only issue I have is that the cutting string/line (model number AC04147) would not automatically extend as it is shortened. Every time the cutting lines are shortened, I have to stop and manually pop out the string head to adjust the lines so that they can be long enough for trimming my grass.

I picked up a refurb unit from direct tools earlier this year. Good power and very lightweight compared to my 60 volt tools. Plenty of power and easy to just pop in a new pretty cheap 18v battery. Only issue I have is that after trimming for several minutes the unit will cut out. Seems like motor may be overheating but not sure since Home depot serviced it last week and replaced the motor but still having issue. At this price well worth if you can find one.

Great deal - I own this model and love it. It has all the power I need and is very convenient. I've also had it cut out after running for extended periods of time, but giving it a quick break seems to work. I will say that the the Ryobi trimmer line is junk. I put Husqvarna .095 line on and rarely need to add more.

+1 for the post and I want to be suckered in to try to find this but I'm not going to even try... Local stores showing "limited quantity".

Really want a brushless model (have the basic 10 inch model and it just is awful).

I also have this when I bought it as a refurb from Home Depot. Like everyone said, it's pretty powerful and does a great job. Only issue I encountered was the string would sometimes cut itself so short that I have to remove the head and pull it out manually. I think it's the string I have because it's not doing it as much with the new thicker string.

Dang. There's one close by to me, but I live in AZ and the people are batshit crazy out there with the whole coronavirus thing. Not risking dealing with the loonies 😭😭

I just purchased this June 15th, same exact model / kit. Think Home Depot will honor a return rebuy? or just credit half back in person tomorrow?

edit.

on the receipt mine shows this upc

046396029058 RY18VTRIMMER <A> <M 169.00
RYOBI 18V BRUSHLESS TRIMMER
MAX REFUND VALUE $152.10

is this not the same? sku seems different.

edit im not mad. it appears the one I got is the newer model.

My understanding is more volts = more power. I have a 60V mower and love it. Just curious as to how powerful/effective this 18V trimmer would be. I've read where people recommend 40V minimum for effective yard tools.

To be clear, the battery in this kit is P108 [homedepot-static.com], which is High Capacity ("Lithium+ [ryobitools.com]") but not the High Power with the brushless prongs (which is P192 [ryobitools.com])

I have had this one for about a year. A couple notes:

1. It is compatible with Expand-It attachments, but it does NOT have the quick release. It's two phillips screws that are annoying, not the spring pin and knob like most

2. It is great for string trimming. It is virtually unusable with the pole saw attachment, and only usable with the straight edger if you reeeeeally baby it. And both will overheat it. So don't plan on using this with any other attachments.
