They also have the Breville Essenza Mini in three colors with the Aeroccino 3 for $124.99, which is a great price: https://www.macys.com/shop/product/nespresso-by-breville-essenza-mini-espresso-machine-with-aeroccin... [macys.com]

Cheapest I've seen it over the last year in the combo setup was ~$123 at BBB, I believe. Essenza Mini is still Wirecutter's top rated basic Nespresso machine. I've enjoyed mine.

Thanks so much for the tip. We'll avoid the tap water. How often do you use a descaling solution?
My new machine tells me when to run the descaler, but I'd say maybe every 3-6 months depending on how much you use it. You can buy the 2 pack solution for like $9 from Nespresso.

These prices are ok. For example, I bought the Breville Essenza Mini with the Aeroccinno for the same $93 at Target last May that Macy's is charging without it. I suspect demand for these machines are higher as a result of the pandemic. For example, my sister bought one at the start of the pandemic when she realized that they'd be stuck at home.

My sister bought the Vertuo machine and I have the originale machine. IMO, they are different machines. The original line is exclusively espresso usually designed for 2 to 4 ounce draws and you choose how large a draw no matter what is suggested by the pod maker. In comparison, the Vertuo line makes up to 8 ounce cups and you have no control over the size as the machine reads a bar code on the pods and adjusts brewing accordingly. I feel like the Vertuo is a lot more like a Keurig than the original line.

I use tap exclusively and have really hard well water (we got thru CLR by the gallon). Just add a few tablespoons of white vinegar to the water and run the cleaning cycle every 6 months. I've had the same Inissia D40 for 3 1/2 years without a problem.

I descale mine minimum once a year, but that was when I was only using it 2-3 times a week. If you are using it daily (like I am right now during pandemic work from home), or multiple times a day, you may need to do it every 3-6 months. Nespresso sells a descaling pack that has 2 pouches for like $10 if I remember.

I also bought the Breville Essenza Mini with the Aeroccinno at Target, but I think mine was a little lower around $86? I used my red card and I think taxes were low since I was traveling at the time. Still works fine for me and has saved me money when it comes to me wanting espresso drinks. I think the deal for this machine is okay, but has been lowered before.

We have the VertuoPlus machine. The coffee it makes is superb. Just understand going in that the pods for the Vertuo line machines are about 1.10 a piece and there are no generics.

You can recycle your pods with some success but the machine can be finicky with these. The best luck I have had is with the Mycap lid with filters. They seem to work much better than the stick on lids. The downside of this is you have to fill the pod in the morning, when curmudgeonry is at its peak.

On the upside I can count the number of times I have visited Starbucks in the past year on one hand.

I second to you. I have Essenza Mini from last 3 years and it's making amazing espresso.

If you are aiming for a vertuo machine, you may want to wait a tad bit longer for the machine plan to return. Since you will need to use nespresso capsules, it may save you a bit in the long run.

which of these have reusable pods? the idea of single use is cringe worthy
Nespresso pods are recyclable. They provide free bags with prepaid shipping. You fill the bag with your used pods ship them back. Very easy process. Nesspresso Recyling [nespresso.com]

I've been eyeing a Nespresso machine and leaning towards the Original Line vs the Vertuo Line for the fact that it has more variety of pods available and I don't need larger sizes.

Recommendations on an Original Nespresso machine?
I got the Breville Essenza Mini a few months ago and highly recommend it. Go with the original line and if you want to save some money get the Peet's pods. Costco puts them on sale for $35-$40 for 80 count every now and then. Significantly cheaper than anything Vertuo.

Agree with this. Virtuoline makes great coffee but it is more expensive to maintain. So I bought an original line machine and very happy with the espressos it's making. The original line is much more cost effective.

might consider getting a manual machine? those are actually designed to be filled so the whole process is much easier (and no pod waste, obvi.)

What is the extra maintenance on the virtuoline?
