These are still necessary because cell phones will never be allowed during tests in school, SAT/ACT, nor AP tests. There are alternatives made by other electronics makers for $30-50, and they all stink. Only HP is competitive, and they're harder to use but more powerful...made for engineering. So TI has a pretty good lock on the market and charges way too much for these, but we have to suck it up (collective we...pretty much parents of high schoolers). And teachers can only keep knowledge of one or two calculator systems for all the functions they need to teach the kids to use, and TI sponsors schools/teachers with discounts, so TI has a lock. It sucks, but it is what it is.

Have been using one in the field for over a decade, it's been through hell and back. Still runs Block Dude perfectly.

Figure I'll add for the tech savvy, you may want to downgrade the firmware as TI has announced these are losing support for ASM/C and a lot of third-party programs will cease to function. They're doing it to curb cheating, supposedly. Won't affect 99% of the users performing calculus.

Can't believe this hasn't phased out like encyclopedias. There are graphing calculator apps and web pages that do this. Only reason to get the physical calculator is for the ap test or college exams

Its is truly hard to beat these calculators at speed of input. The are the only way to get fast fast answers for tests and get decent scores.

These will always be this price, because teachers always require students to have them. Just like college books that the professors always require students to get at outrageous prices. Then they are barely used.

If I was gonna spend the money I'd look for a TI 84 Plus CE. At least that model seems to hold its resale value a little better
Agreed.
And that is on sale at Amazon for $99.

Pawn shops always have these for $15. They are still the most used for high school to bachelor degree tests/exams for some reason.

T1 84 Plus CE is $99.99 at staples, would that be a better buy?
This would be a better buy but it's showing OOS.

Man I think last year Walmart had the TI 84 CE for $33. Now that was a steal I was able to get two of them. I would definitely go for the CE over this one.

Those were wild goose chase. Only extremely lucky people found those.

Just buy a broken one off eBay for $15 and fix it. Usually it's the connectors inside that erode at a certain point so opening it up and moving the connectors to a different point will get it working.

You can get decent conditioned ti's on ebay, no need to pay $100 for these required by school overpriced items. I paid $27 for mine last year.
Probably any other time than July/August, you can find these for a good deal like that, though I'm seeing a large majority of sales in the past couple months went for $60-80.
