For reference, here's last year's FP deal on this calculator. Smilie

It seems like these graphing calculators have been artificially high for a long time.

Yeah, well, last year I posted this same deal and folks complained about the price. But the price didn't drop, and the deal I posted was the best available price for a new TI-84 Plus. So let's see what happens this year! Thanks in advance for the polite discourse. Smilie

You can get decent conditioned ti's on ebay, no need to pay $100 for these required by school overpriced items. I paid $27 for mine last year.

As my college son says, 'Mom, these are online now.' So, I guess these college kids are using the free online version now.

However, as an old school person, this is a good deal. Thanks, OP.

If I was gonna spend the money I'd look for a TI 84 Plus CE. At least that model seems to hold its resale value a little better

Sadly, a lot of highschools still require it as they don't trust kids with their smart phones out during a test.

I would not recommend this model at all. Go with the color 84 Plus CE version. It is much easier to visualize equations and a much better machine in general. It's rechargeable as well. It's $99 right now and may be cheaper with a staples coupon. The best TI calculator in my opinion is the Nspire (blows both of these machines out of the water but I know most students may not want to learn it by themselves since the teachers "recommend" the 84). Best graphical calculator overall I've ever encountered is the HP Prime. Has a touchscreen and the user interface is great compared to TI but again no teacher will explain how to use it since they've basically been locked into a TI monopoly with TI basically setting a standard back in the 90s.

Also in the future these are going to disappear. Desmos has released an app that locks your smartphone while taking a test and this has been approved for some state and possibly national testing in the future. Good riddance in my opinion. There should be no need for a dedicated calculator device to exist in this day and age.

T1 84 Plus CE is $99.99 at staples, would that be a better buy?

I used to know a guy in high school that could download games like super Mario on these calculators.
