So i frequently get dropped connections and poor connections with bluetooth devices around my house, including a 2 different pairs of bluetooth wired headphones by Anker, and a couple of cheapo bluetooth portable speakers. I think it's due to signal congestion in the 2.4GHz band. I know Apple uses a proprietary chip to encode their wireless signal to these headphones. Would that result in less transmission problems? Do they use a different frequency maybe?
They're expensive but the Airpods really perform well overall. My Anker are kinda crappy and I have their top of the line model...they work fine for music but for phone calls they re bad and frequent bluetooth noise.

Anyone tell me why these are worth $200+ ? I've been using $30 cheapos from Amazon. I've had Beats and Jaybirds and these don't sound that much different. What am I missing?
I use the Jabra elite and what I'm really missing is being able to listen using the left ear only. You can use the right ear only, but to listen with the left ear, the right ear needs to be connected and on. AirPods are independent and you can use either ear individually. That's awesome and might be worth the premium.

is this "new" price a new normal or everyone is trying to unload them because new gen is incoming sometime end of year? they know something we don't?
New gen aren't coming this year, just new just a different model like Beats

Might be better to pay a bit extra like at Costco for their better return/warranty policy. Heard some bad stories about Woot returns
And if you're an executive member the 2% back almost covers that anyway. But either way, easily worth the $5 for the return/warranty benefits - these do not fall under the 90 day return policy

Interesting question. Taking a stab at it. If you really think the transmission problems are due to congestion I would guess that the AirPods wouldn't be able to fix this. I think Bluetooth uses a narrowband at about 2.45GHz so the AirPods would have to operate there as well. Also, if I remember correctly there is an (small! like 512bytes) upper limit on how much data you can transmit per "packet" in Bluetooth so unless this encoding is a HIGHLY efficient lossless compression algorithm there's only so much they could do on that front to mitigate latency. Maybe try decluttering your frequency and see how much that helps.

How do these compare to the Bose QC20 in terms of ANC and sound quality?

I love my Bose QC20 but they are wearing down after daily use for 7 years and the wire does get annoying at times. I personally haven't found anything as good (other than other Bose QC series headphones). I'd love to hear from someone who has used both.

If call quality is good enough for you, no need to update. Most people get them for their call quality and ability to quickly switch between Mac and phone

I'm not a fan of Airpods. I've done comparisons with many wireless earbuds, and the Airpods were only marginally better in terms of sound but came short in comfort.

HOWEVER:

The Airpods Pros are something else. The ANC makes such a huge difference. It works really well, drowning out most of the background noise.

Just take the right unit out of the case and put it in your pocket=> Left goes in your ear. You're welcome.ApplauseApplauseApplause

Ikr? Why can't they include tax in the price like they do in any other country?
'coz in the USA each state/county gets to decide the sales tax %. Ranges anywhere from 0% to up to 10%, so companies can't and are not supposed to include tax in the price.

How well does it work compared to competitors like the Bose QC20 and QC35?

What is the return policy anyone know- I want to bite but am worried they will not stay in my ears. The regular AirPods would not stay in at all.

30 days as long as they are not damaged. You pay return shipping.

The regular Airpods do not stay in my ears well.
The Airpods Pros stay in securely due to the rubber tips.

Hey. I saw your earlier post about the comparison as well, and I do not have a great answer for you because I have not used the Bose noise cancelling devices.

I found this comparison review interesting.

Thanks.

Here's the conclusion in that article:
Quote :
The choice between the two is on a complete case by case basis. If you want to get the best possible sound and portability is not a problem for you at all, then the Bose QC35's are the best option by far.
If you travel around and don't have space to bring a pair of bigger headphones, then the AirPods will be perfect for you.
However, it is not compared to the AirPods Pro. Good review, nonetheless.
