I bought these for $220 from Verizon a month or so ago. My husband says they aren't worth the price but he doesn't use them - I use them every day and I used my og AirPods every day. I think they're absolutely worth the price. Buy the AppleCare+ so you're not spending half the price to replace one of the buds when your dog decides to chew it up (like mine did with my og pods) Smilie

Costco had the same price recently. I missed it but hoping it to happen again. I love Costco's return convenience if something goes wrong with it.

Any Black Friday/Apple experts think a better price will be available then?

Really? Which headphones under $100 has Active Noise Cancelling? I'm not talking about ones that claim they are "noise isolating" because that's not the same. Yes, Apple does charge a premium, but there is also something to be said of how well they work independently and how quickly they charge. I have the original AirPods and I love them because they are convenient and works like it should. I had a friend who fought buying them stating the same thing, "they're ridiculously overpriced" etc. etc. He got a pair as a gift and loves them. Not saying you will, but until you try them and give them an honest try, I'd say you might put your foot in your mouth. All depends on what you want to get out of a headphones. For everyday carry - IMO, these are great.
Same experience, I talked sh*t about iPhone multitasking and overpriced until i got my iPhone 7 plus. I shut up and get the new one every 2 years.

How well does it work compared to competitors like the Bose QC20 and QC35?
You're talking apples to oranges, IMO. I have the QC35s and the sound quality and noise cancelling afforded by the over-the-ear significantly larger headphones cannot be competed with. I don't have the pros, but comparisons I've seen say that QC35's ANC is still better. I can tell you the sounds quality will be better as well. The main appeal of the AirPods Pro is their portability and you can use one earbud at a time if you want to be extra aware of surroundings. Unless you like to hang your headphones around your neck or carry a bag to lug them around, it's just not practical to carry them all the time.

Another benefit is you'll stay cooler with the AirPods in hot/humid weather. I find wearing the QC35s to act like ear muffs trapping some heat in.

Thanks.
However, it is not compared to the AirPods Pro. Good review, nonetheless.
Oops. I actually gave you the wrong link. Look at this:
https://www.gearbrain.com/airpods...71561.html

I was looking at both reviews, and this is the one that compared it to the Pro.

TL;DR: Airpods Pro had better ANC. Bose QC35 had better sound quality.

Which is why I asked about the QC20, originally...

The Transparency mode in the Airpods Pro is pretty cool.

The Airpods Pro has 3 modes:
  1. ANC on
  2. ANC off
  3. Transparency

The first two are what you think they mean. The Transparency mode is not just ANC off but it somehow forces ambient sounds into the ear. Really useful if you need to hear ambient sounds (for example if your baby is sleeping and if you need to watch out for crying). On the Airpods, you can only toggle between ANC and Transparency, but from the music source (iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch), you can toggle among all 3 modes.

Really useful tips on using the Airpods Pro:

if you can hold off until the end of this month maybe early august, the new samsung galaxy buds will premiere driving all earbuds of all makes and models down even further.

As someone who hates to spend money, the truth is that these are definitely overpriced. This is definitely a luxury brand and what you're mostly paying for is the brand. However, you won't find the connectivity that these have with iPhones (obviously), and the noise canceling works particularly well. I own some Sony over the ear headphones that were quite expensive several years ago, and while AirPods don't match up to the noise canceling function on those, they do a pretty good job considering they're just earbuds.

My biggest issue with these is that there's no way to disable the music pausing when you pull out one AirPod, the next biggest issue is that the FindMy app doesn't work particularly well with these. They also tend to intermittently start to slip out of my ears when running and walking.

If you're debating buying these, try $30 cheapos first and if you don't like those, then maybe AirPods are for you (IF you have an iPhone). Either way, be prepared to spend money.

I had first generation then these. I absolutely think these are best ones on market and I also have Bose NC. Sound and easy use is amazing. They last a long time and fit great.

I got these for $159 from a friend who gets them with an Apple discount. I bought Apple care for $29 as a insurance policy with any battery issue.

I would never pay $240 or $200 just for the principal of it since technology changes so much.

Good luck and enjoy.

Got it from Costco with AppleCare+ for headphones ($23 at Costco). My launch day first gen AirPods have terrible battery health now. I think buying AppleCare for these makes sense in 2 years.
