Yeah I ventured down the hydroponics rabbit hole after my wife got an aerogarden first...few hundred later and I have 5-6 dozen tomatoes and some healthy green onions and peppers. Use those $12-$15 ultrasonic foggers if you want to clone any cuttings, no rooting compound required just fog on 1 minute off 2 is how i do it. What kind of lighting did you get? Ended up getting an Elite 360 Kit from Horticultural Lighting Group, it works amazingly well, they have great sales sometimes and its super easy to build your own quantum board from a kit.
I've got a Viparspectra 450w in the tent and my aquaponics setup was a $300 pre-fab by ecolife, not cost effective at all. I mainly got into aquaponics so my 30 gallon tank wouldn't need to be cleaned as often and it's great for that — no free nitrates even after 4 weeks without a water change. The strawberries and green onions are just a bonus.

They do taste way better than the stuff at the store.

The elite has the screen. I have that at home. Maybe I'll wait for khols to put that on sale. Sometimes it goes for $60
Also check Home Depot. I got my 5th Bounty Elite (2019 model) for $125 instead of $329.

hilarious that anyone would pay $80 for $1 worth of herbs that are used sparingly. forgive me for being a realist.

You'd be better off with a "grow wall" if you have ample sunlight in your home. These won't yield enough for a regular consumption or for a family for more than let's say once a week until the harvest ends. Grow walls aren't cheap, but if you're handy you can make one for a few hundred bucks perhaps. They're really neat if you can manage it though.
Yeah Aerogarden too small to grow salad. I went with a "grow pole" farmstand www.lettucegrow.com. [com.] Been stripping lettuce since quarantine started.
