New Gravel Bike on BikesDirect: Gravity CF EXPRESS SRAM APEX 1X11

They won't be ready for a while....probably a good thing. Any decent priced bikes are still getting snatched up fast and it looks like another round of Covid shutdown so deals are still hard to come by.

Here is one bike, a carbon SRAM Apex kitted flat bar gravel/road bike for $1099. Some wide 45 cm tires

http://www.bikesdirect.com/produc...-bikes.htm

Has the entry level Shimano 201 hydraulic brakes....I have these they are good and reliable.

It has entry level stuff, but this gear is really good (I run this combo on my Hybrid, and I run Ultegra on my road bike). And easy to upgrade.

Correct. If it were available now it would be long sold out.

There was already a massive under-ordering of bikes for this year. That was before Covid. Then Covid.

It took me 20 hours a week to get 2 decent bikes during this period.

Now, they are threatening more shutdowns which means another boom in bike demand.

I want an offroad bike (hybrid id not enough). Of course, I am not shelling out eleven hundred now, but I am going to keep this bike on my radar.

Decent price although I'm not much of a SRAM fan. I'd probably buck up for GRX600 componentry.

Anyway, I have 4 bikes already and this has got to be about the worst time to buy a new bike price-wise.

OP, are you going to post every new bike from BD?! ;-)

Now, considering the current bike market in America, this is not bad at all, but is it a SD? That is questionable, especially since it ships in a month or 2. (opportunity cost is great for those of us with short riding seasons)

Technically, SRAM APEX is comparable to Shimano Tiagra, close to 105 (according to google... I have no personal experience). So, if we were to compare value vs a Tiagra level carbon road bike, this is overpriced. You can argue this bike has disc brakes, 1x drivetrain, thru-axle... So its fairly priced... again, not SD.

But... IMO, better deal than the Amazon stephenwolf you ordered... especially considering the potential headaches later on This bike has more coherent set of modern components... :-)
EDIT: NVM, you wrote that you want a true MTB... :-)

Gravel bikes need drop bars. Rest isn't bad except long delivery date.

There are a whole bunch of new bikes on BD....all delivery dates in the future. There are only a few worth posting because the prices are higher...still affected by Covid. Also, most of them are 2X. I have only recently checked Gravel, but their new MTB/29ers probably following the same trend (higher prices, less availability). It is a really f'ed up time to buy a bike, but my gym is closing and I can't just ride my road bike every day.

I posted the Steppenwolf because I almost bought it. You and a couple others helped talk me out of it. It would have been an irresponsible purchase.

This bike checks all the right boxes (offroad, fairly light, wide tires, cheap, 1X).

But yeah...everything I post is the best deal I can find.

EDIT: Ah...riding seasons, I did not think about that. I rode in 107 heat index (Houston Texas) yesterday. The upside is I can ride year 'round.

I should probably just chill and buy a bike when winter hits.

Also, I have experience with 105/Tigra/Apex. 105 shifts way smoother than either and is far superior to Tiagra. But it is a different animal from Apex. Apples and oranges, even though both are classified as road kits, Apex is really suited better for both offroad and has a much wider use range of practicle applications. I had 105 on my road bike (and some Ultegra now) and I would never put Apex on a pure road type bike. City bike, dual purpose, grave/offroad.....Apex all day. It does it all and competently, never a problem. I think I rum a 42/34 combo so I need lower gearing off road, and if I still lived in San Fran, but for what I need it is fine.

If I only had one bike for everything I do it would be SRAM 1X (Force, but Apex works great). However on my sub 18 lb road bike, Ultegra is Galaxies superior.

If I did not have several bikes (and one is Apex already) I would def go 1X.

You're simply incorrect. Show us a Tiagra carbon frame bike for under $1100 from a different retailer and you'd have a point - but you can't, so what are you even saying.

Is it me or does BD not display the weight of their bikes?
Also, what's the point of a road bike without a drop bar? Mind as well get a hybrid
