3,000 lumens is nowhere near enough for outdoor day viewing which is impractical at any lumen level. You can't project black. The ambient light hitting the screen is for all intents and purposes your baseline black level. You might be able to make out a faint, washed out image but it seems unlikely it would be watchable.
Daytime viewing out doors will look the same on just about any projector no matter the lumens or type, washed out. Image will be completely visible so no problems with seeing it but black colors will be looking like greys and other colors will not be vivid. Just how it is with ambient light outside. At dusk with a good screen, this will look good, and at night time even outdoors this will look excellent.
Just FYI the enclosure for this is pretty decent in size, so you will need something to sit this upon.
As for this projector, people dont seem to know this model that well from what I seen mention in this thread. This model ran along with the 3100 and the 3900 series all made for in home professional installs, using professional image engines. I am using the 3100 so I know. For this price with a warranty this is a steal, not to mention it has full lens shift which makes placement pretty easy as long as you got the distance, so you dont have to be dead center with the projector, can project off to the side. This is an amazing projector, which provides an amazing image, its one the best 1080p no question about it, also 3-D one of the reason I got it, looks amazing on it too. Off course you can also game on it since its lag input time is right at 28ms, as long as you turn off frame interpolation.
Had to go and share what appears to be a decent projector for what I was looking for right when I flipped to money save mode.
Any thoughts on how this will actually perform for movies outdoors during the day? 3k lumens I think is enough to be visible but not super great image where night time viewing would be pretty good. Can any one confirm my thoughts on the daytime outdoor viewing? If its usable, I'm sold. If no way usable then a no go and will look for higher lumen projectors and more money is my sofa.

Honestly, I've been climbing the projector tree for a couple years now and just bought a used Epson 6030ub. It has decimated any others I've had. One thing I've learned the hard way is that if you want a really high end projector, select several models and watch eBay like a hawk. People will post very fair prices and every once in a while, someone will post a gem of a deal at half it's value. I just saw an Epson 4030 posted for $500 earlier today which is a really solid deal

During the day you will se almost nothing with this projector. 10000+ lumens for day, screen must be under shadow and the contrast will be terrible.

The problem is projectros and specifically LCDs loose picture quslity over time and some of the electroinics fail due to the high heat. I've seen dozens of failed projectors

Is this a good one for an indoor home theater setup? TIA

So are we living in the early 2000's, your argument which is extremely old is no longer valid? No one makes or has made LCD panels with organic materials in over 10 years for projectors, so there is no degradation. All projector panels I seen have all been made with inorganic materials so they either work or they dont, just like DLP mirrors.
Its good to provide information, but you want to make sure your providing current info, your more than slightly out of date.
As for projectors losing quality over time, that's just the lamp and its easily replaceable depending on the projector can be as cheap as $50 or as expensive as $200.

I've been using this model for the last 3 years in my living room setup. I believe I paid almost double this price at the time and it's been worth every penny. Over 3 years and 8000 hours later and It's still on the first bulb. I chose this model for it's high lumens as our living room doesn't get that dark during the day. Even with multiple lights on in the same room it throws a good picture. I don't know how it compares to newer models but I can definitely recommend this model at this price, especially if you need day time viewing.

It looks like replacement bulbs are around $110 - $125. That's not too bad is it?
Epson's site says it's 15 lbs. That seems quite heavy, no? (I'm coming from the IN72 which is just under 10 lbs.)

In all likely hood the lamp will last you 4000+ hours and that price range is about the norm for a replacement bulb. Yes its on the bigger and heavier side, but that's cause it has all professional grade components on the inside. In most cases you will upgrade to an 4k projector before time comes for you to replace the bulb.
Like I said I have the 3100, which is identical to the 3700 just mine has no speaker. This is a steal of a price and while it wont resell for same price, you can probably get just under $500 in a year for it, unless something crazy happens and really good 4k projectors become dirt cheap AKA under $1K.

You just want a highly portable projector? Not to set up as a home theater? If so, save yourself $400 and buy this projector: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y4TW...dFbXD
