Please note before buying, Kasa imposes a limitation on its software to a max of 3 smart actions per its FAQ.

"Q2: How many Smart Actions can I create?
A: Up to 50 Smart Actions can be created under one Kasa account, but only up to 3 can be enabled at the same time."

I have a bunch of Z-wave switches I uninstalled from my old house, wonder if I should make the switch to these? Only issue I don't like is I can't do a 3 way dimmer nor a switch that controls the fan speed but they seem a lot less complicated than my GE switches and using smart things to talk to Alexa, or no? I've had the 15+ switches sitting in a box for about 2 years

Can these be setup to auto turn off say 15 minutes after being turned on by hand at the switch. Looking for option for older relative who forgets to turn off lights at night and thinks someone has been in the house when they wake up and find the lights are on.
Yes, in the app under "smart actions" hit the + in the top corner and choose "auto-off timer".

Stupid questions.

1. If I have a light fixture that can be controlled by three separate manual switches, will a three way smart switch work or do I need an 8 way (2 to the 3rd power)? I'm sure I am wrong in the 8 way because I don't see any smart switches that are more than 3 way.

2. If I buy a 3 way switch because a fixture is controlled by two manual light switches, do I need to replace both manual switches with three way switches or just one? If just one what happens when people randomly flip the other manual switch?
A 3 switch setup has two 3-ways on each end and a 4-way switch in the middle. The way Kasa wants you to install it is to replace both 3-way switches with the smart 3-way switch (FYI the switches listed here are NOT 3-way switches).

You can get away with using a single smart 3-way switch if you can figure out which switch has the line side coming from the breaker (always hot wire) And replace that one.

Which covers do you use for anything over 1 gang? I bought these on the last deal and they wouldn't fit under my existing covers. So frustrating that they wouldn't design these to fit with normal covers.
They should fit normal covers no problem. Did you happen to leave the frame for the clip on cover attached by accident?

You attached the screws too tight and bent the holder. Lose the screws a little and it will fit correctly. Smilie

Not hard if you ever install a switch. It can be hard to put it in with all the wires in the back of the box, but the connection is very straightforward.

I have a mix of z wave and these, personally I like them both. There's no need to change from the z-wave switches in my mind though.

Intrigued...are you referring to the frame around the actual paddle? Just installed 13 switches and used Leviton combo covers with screws, no issues. I tried multiple screwless, and the thick plastic ears/tabs where they attach to the wall don't allow the mounting frame to lay flat against the wall.
