They do this all the time. Nothing new here.

Link to the information you shared then as a helpful member of the SD community? they 'do not' do this all the time. In the past you had to redeem $20-25 for a Staples or HD gift card for instance.

Pej, you're absolutely wrong. Redemptions at these low amounts were never available in the past.

redeemed a $5 HD gc, but did not see bonus $5. Only received a $5 HD eCertificate
What? No one said anything about a bonus $5.

read the title again, you redeem $4 and change for a $5 gift card, the difference is the bonus amount (5-20% bonus from the amount you paid for it). you don't get two $5 gift cards. I'll try to make it a little clearer.

Nothing will beat the Shell deal they had years ago.... doubled my money with that and I had like $2k in CB IIRC.

The word 'bonus' is used above.

It's not easy to understand whether you get an extra "bonus $5 Gift Card with 'bonus' amount."

as noted, the title has been revised to avoid any confusion. the word "Cashback Bonus' is Discover's term for their rewards program, that wasn't implied to mean you got an extra $5 gift card, it was referring to the bonus amount you got from what you redeemed (say $4.25) to earn a $5 GIFT CARD (75c being the free bonus amt).

I'm getting a slightly better discount with Lowe's vs Home Depot. I guess I'll go with Lowe's gift card.

And? Discover calls their cashback credits "cashback bonus". As for the OP's own reference to the word "bonus", if you redeem $4.25 of your cashback for a $5 gift card what would you call the additional 75 cents value that you receive?

The person that thought they would receive an additional $5 pulled that amount out of thin air.

Only reason I've been keeping a $300 cashback balance since like 2011. One day, one day...
